Little Heroes Foundation Launches ChildFamilyCare Program

Children with Muscular Dystrophy and their families in SA will benefit from a new Little Heroes Foundation initiative to provide access to a range of services as a result of a unique partnership arrangement with Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.

Minister for Disability Services, Jennifer Rankine and Executive Chair of Little Heroes Foundation, Chris McDermott will today officially launch ChildFamilyCare and announce over $600,000 in funding to be provided by Little Heroes Foundation for new or increased services to children and their families.

Minister for Disability Jennifer Rankine congratulated the Little Heroes Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation on the partnership.

"Caring for a loved one, especially a child, with Muscular Dystrophy would be incredibly challenging – both physically and emotionally," Ms Rankine said.

"This program is a truly innovative example of two charities working together to support these families by linking them to services – making their lives just that little bit easier."

In outlining the reasons behind the unique partnership arrangement Chris McDermott said,

“In today’s economic environment we recognise that partnerships with like minded charities will deliver greater efficiency and better outcomes for the kids and their families. Together with Muscular Dystrophy we take the view that we should combine our strengths to address an area that has largely been left to the families themselves.”

“ChildFamilyCare programs will effectively work across a number of charities and improve access to services that are fundamental to life after diagnosis for them. Our absolute intention is to make sure that we can support children and their families when and where it counts the most”, he said.

Chief Executive Officer, SA, for Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, Phil Martin said,

“We are very pleased to be able to work with LHF on this program and look forward to what we believe will become the benchmark services and support programs for children across the country.

We will empower young people with Muscular Dystrophy and their families by expanding our current services to enable us to be more available and accessible.”

“The funding from LHF showcases how charities working together can provide new and better care for their constituents and in particular the people of South Australia," Martin said.

ChildFamilyCare programs will deliver over $1.0 million of key services to children and families nationally over the next twelve months.
