Adelaide commuters are being urged to plan ahead this long weekend, with the Seaford and Flinders train lines set to temporarily close in full and part of the Belair line also affected.
From 8:30pm on Friday June 5 until the last service on Monday June 8, trains will not operate on the Seaford and Flinders lines. During the same weekend, Belair line services will also be disrupted, with trains not running between Adelaide Railway Station and Mitcham Railway Station from 8:30pm on Friday June 5 until first service on Monday June 8.
The closures will allow renewal and maintenance works to be carried out across the rail network, alongside major project works connected to the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital. According to Adelaide Metro, the works cannot be safely completed while trains are operating.
For passengers travelling on the Seaford and Flinders lines, substitute buses will replace all train services between Adelaide Railway Station and Seaford and Flinders railway stations for the duration of the closure.
Substitute buses will also operate between Adelaide Railway Station and Mitcham Railway Station while the Belair line disruption is in place. Passengers should note that bikes will not be permitted on board Adelaide Metro substitute buses.
The closure will also be used to complete signalling upgrades at the Emerson Railway Station level crossing, near the South Road overpass. These works will require single-lane closures for both eastbound and westbound traffic on Cross Road for the duration of the rail shutdown.
Adelaide Metro trains are expected to return to normal services from first service on Tuesday June 9.
The disruption is likely to affect weekend travel across Adelaide’s southern suburbs, including passengers travelling to and from the city, Flinders, Seaford and stations along the Belair corridor. Commuters, weekend travellers and anyone planning to connect with other public transport services are encouraged to check their route before heading out.
