Do you know Westfield’s next local hero?

Exciting news for Adelaidians – the popular shopping centre chain has announced the finalists for the 2021 Westfield Local Heroes program, featuring over a dozen South Aussies striving to make progressive changes within our community.

Now, community members have the opportunity to give back to the individuals making a difference in their local areas by casting their vote for their 2021 Westfield Local Heroes.

Shining a light on SA homegrown businesses and organisations that continue to inspire the community, the local heroes program recognises and promotes community role models whose work or activities create positive benefits for others.

This year’s finalists represent an array of sectors, including emergency services, community groups, sporting clubs, not-for-profit, schools, authorities and the local environment. Each individual is nominated to run in either Marion, Tea Tree Plaza or West Lakes Westfield shopping complexes competition.

Amongst those stepping into this year’s spotlight will be Craig Scott from the Goodwood Saints Football Club, who turned the footy club into a stand-out achiever on and off the field. Scott is being recognised as the driving force behind developing the club’s female teams and SA’s inclusive league for players with disabilities.

Other awe-inspiring hopefuls include Nick Lee behind the bowel-cancer awareness Jodi Lee Foundation, Amy Rowe from intellectual disability education initiative Project Potential Adelaide and Walk with Wings co-founder Jamie Norris.

Volunteering extraordinaire Leigh Aiken from Operation Flinders Foundation is also in the running to become one of SA’s local heroes, recognising his dedication and devotion to guiding young at-risk people to become the best version of themselves. During his 11-year tenure, Aiken has led 14 100km expeditions, directly helping 140 vulnerable youths.

Now in its fourth year, the program sees each Westfield centre award three $10,000 individual grants to organisations that are making a positive impact on the local community or environment.

In total, Westfield will award more than $1.2M in community grants across Australia and New Zealand this year.

Celebrate those who support your local community by voting for your local hero from 10 August until 30 August. To vote for your local hero, head to the Westfield Local Heroes website.
