Pacific Games Relay Launch Port Moresby, PNG, 25 March 2015

NITV, Australia’s official broadcaster of this year’s Pacific Games, will bring audiences all the sporting action when the tournament kicks off from 4 July. In two Australian firsts, viewers will be able to catch all the Games’ action on free-to-air television and cheer on Australian athletes as they compete in four sporting areas for the first time.

Between the 4 and 18 July, NITV will broadcast over 90 hours of live coverage from the host city of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, featuring both the Opening and Closing ceremonies and over seven hours of dedicated programming daily, with commentary from rugby-union great and former Wallabies captain Mark Ella and broadcaster, Tuipoloa Evan Charlton.

This year’s Pacific Games will welcome 4000 athletes from 24 neighbouring Pacific nations to Port Moresby for an adrenaline-charged sporting exchange of 28 varied sports and disciplines.

Mark Ella, Executive Producer, NITV Sport and Internal Productions says: “We’re looking forward to bringing all the action from this year’s Pacific Games to Australians for the very first time, made even more special by the involvement of our athletes in the Rugby 7’s Women, Tai Kwon Do, Sailing and Weightlifting competitions. We’ll be cheering on our home-grown talent throughout the tournament, especially our three Indigenous rugby stars, Tanisha Stanton, Taleena Simon, Mahalia Murphy.”

Broadcast Schedule:

  • Saturday 4 July 1900 – 2130 LIVE: Opening Ceremony
  • Sunday 5 – 17 July – 1300 – 1930 LIVE: Daily Coverage
  • Saturday 18 July 1300 – 2200 LIVE: Daily Coverage and Closing Ceremony

There will also be a 12pm daily highlights show between Sunday 5 July and Sunday 19 July, recapping all the action from the day before.
