It’s that time of year again, when spring racing events fill the calendar, and one of the most anticipated days on the South Australian racing schedule is fast approaching.
The Carlton Draught Murray Bridge Gold Cup returns on October 3 at Thomas Farms Racecourse, bringing thousands of racegoers together for one of the region’s biggest days out.
More than 5,000 racegoers descended on Murray Bridge for last year’s Gold Cup, and this year brings a $150,000 feature race, packed hospitality precincts, Fashions on the Field, family entertainment and plenty happening long after the horses cross the finish line.
With so much action off the track, one may even forget the main event taking place only metres away.
Helping racegoers settle in for the whole day is a line-up of hospitality packages catering to everything from casual catch-ups to a full premium race-day experience.
For something relaxed, the Pirate Life & Pizza Precinct will bring together pizza, Pirate Life beers and a lively trackside atmosphere, from $99 per person.
Those looking to step things up and all the wine lovers, can book into the Bleasdale Vineyards Wine Stables, where guests will be welcomed with oysters before a three-course meal, paired Bleasdale wines and a premium beverage package inside an exclusive trackside marquee.
At the top end, the Carlton Draught Classic Package takes over the Bridges Event Centre for $300 per person, with a three-course plated lunch, premium beverage package and prime views of the racing.
At the centre of the day is, of course, the racing, with trainers and connections competing for a $150,000 Gold Cup prize pool.
But another fiercely contested competition will be unfolding off the track, with Fashions on the Field returning for 2026.
There will be $3,000 worth of prizes across ladies, men’s and junior categories, backed by major sponsors including LUX Nails Murray Bridge, The Birch House, Darcy Louise Hair and Beauty and The Swanport Hotel.
Glam Adelaide’s own Kelly Noble will also take a seat on this year’s judging panel, with full judging criteria for each category set to be revealed ahead of race day.
Those already planning an outfit may want to look towards softer silhouettes and intricate detailing, with organisers tipping romantic styling to make a strong showing this spring.
Lace, delicate embroidery and considered craftsmanship are expected to feature prominently, while butter yellow is emerging as one of the season’s standout colours.
Families will have plenty to keep younger racegoers busy too, with a dedicated kids zone featuring a go-kart track and Darcy’s travelling farm.
So, take it as the perfect excuse to round up your friends or family and make a weekend of it in the Murraylands, with the Gold Cup at the centre of the action.
