Review: DISCOVERY, A Daft Punk Tribute Show

Everything that Daft Punk fans could ask for, just short of the real thing!

Melbourne’s Damian Andres and Matt Campbell are seasoned DJs and Daft Punk aficionados who have put together a mega tribute show to their idols, complete with state of the art costumes and a huge lighting production.

With acclaimed performances across Australia there was a huge build up of anticipation ahead of their show, DISCOVERY. Effectively, Saturday night’s performance at Fat Controller was the closest thing punters could get to a real Daft Punk performance in Adelaide. With the costumes ensuring they looked the part, the duo shone on stage, literally and figuratively.

With one of the best dancefloors ever seen in Fat Controller’s relative infancy, the pair churned through a mashup of a range of Daft Punk’s finest hits. Perhaps they could have lingered on some songs longer to give dancers more of the Daft Punk experience they came for, although understandably they wanted to showcase their capacity as DJs in their own right.

With so many hit songs melding into each so smoothly, like One More Time, Get Lucky, Harder Better Faster, Lose Yourself to Dance and Technotronic, the crowd was verging on delirious at times. It’s not often you get such a dedicated tribute to arguably the greatest and most influential dance music producers the world has ever seen. With such a rich smattering of hits to draw from, there was little that could go wrong – and little did.

A fantastic show and definitely one to watch out for again in the future.
