South Australian lifestyle brand Salterra Haus has taken a major step beyond retail, launching its first signature fragrance collection in collaboration with Adelaide Hills small-batch fragrance maker Anna Jayne.
The new collection introduces two exclusive scents, designed to capture the brand’s mix of Australian coastal living and Mediterranean influence.
Marea is an eau de parfum designed to be worn on the skin, while Riva is a home fragrance available as both a room spray and diffuser. Together, the two scents mark Salterra Haus’ move into creating its own products.
For founder and director Abbey Threadgold, fragrance offered a natural way to translate the feeling behind Salterra Haus into something people could experience beyond its Brighton store.
“I wanted to create something that felt unmistakably Salterra Haus, something that could transport you through scent,” Abbey said.
“The coast is such an important part of our identity, but so too is the Mediterranean way of living: warmth, connection, beauty and finding pleasure in the everyday.”
Marea draws on sun-warmed days, salt air and time spent by the sea, while Riva carries that same inspiration into the home, with a warm and grounded feel.
Importantly for Abbey, the collection was developed locally. Salterra Haus worked with Anna Jayne in the Adelaide Hills, combining Abbey’s creative direction and vision for the brand with the fragrance maker’s expertise.
“It was important that our first signature collection was developed here in South Australia,” Abbey said.
“When I created Salterra Haus, the vision was always bigger than a retail store. I saw it as a lifestyle brand with its own point of view and, eventually, its own products and experiences.”
Anna Jayne founder Adeline Hearse said the collaboration involved translating that vision into fragrances people could incorporate into their everyday lives.
“For me, fragrance has always been about capturing a feeling. I love taking an idea, mood or moment and translating it into scent that people can wear, experience and make part of their everyday lives,” Adeline said.
The hand-poured collection is available exclusively through Salterra Haus, both online and at its Brighton Central store.
