It’s a tale as old as time: a swim in the ocean followed by a cheeky, delicious and fresh yiros to make the beach day whole.
Seaside Spit has been a longstanding favourite in Christies Beach since 2022, and now, lovers of seafood and Greek cuisine can expect the same quality and service further north in the heart of Semaphore.
Jed and Jade Moukachar opened their new restaurant, Beachside Spit, over the October long weekend to a massive crowd. The venue hadn’t even been added to Google or Maps yet, but the couple decided to open anyway and got a pleasant surprise.
“I don’t want to gloat but [customers] have been saying it’s the best yiros and fish and chips they’ve had,” said Jed.
Beachside Spit has taken over what was formerly Lamb Split BBQ.
“I bought the shop, closed it down and refurbished the whole place.”
Beachside Spit differs slightly from Seaside Spit when it comes to the menu. Its social media promises fresh seafood, yiros and Greek fare cooked over charcoal, while also offering plenty of vegan options, including falafel, which has already been getting great feedback.
The couple has also been trialling a kids’ menu featuring nuggets and gravy, which have been, according to Jed, flying out the door.
“I’ve been wanting to come to Semaphore for a while but haven’t found the right spot but the opportunity came up and [we] pretty much jumped on it.”
“The location is perfect and the community is great. We’ve had great feedback from the locals here.”
Despite the split between the two stores, Jed guarantees the quality will remain the same.
Jed wants people to know that Beachside Spit is open to any and all criticism, as “criticism makes us better. We want honest opinions.”
So, if you’re an early bird, Jed also wants people to know that Beachside Spit opens earlier than other fish and chip stores in Semaphore, starting from 10:30am.
The venue isn’t even at its full potential yet, with an outside facelift still to come. Jed promises neon lights and a shady veranda for those upcoming hot summer days.
“The endgame is to get Beachside Spit at 4.9 stars just like Seaside Spit.”
