Semaphore’s Fed Hotel is stepping into an epic new era, undergoing a more than $7 million transformation into a luxurious coastal dining and staycation destination
The long-standing Semaphore venue is currently reopening in stages, with a new restaurant, bar, deck and gaming room forming part of the broader redevelopment. A 21-room premium accommodation offering is also set to follow in mid-2026, positioning the Fed Hotel as a multifaceted hospitality destination just moments from the coast.

For generations of locals, the Fed Hotel has been part of Semaphore’s social fabric, but for this latest investment, there’s a clear shift in direction. The reimagined venue is designed to keep its neighbourhood feel while introducing a more polished food, drink and stay experience.
Donna Baker, Operations Manager at SA Pub Group, said, “The Fed Hotel has always played an important role in the Semaphore community, and we’re incredibly mindful of that as we move into this next chapter.”
“Our focus has been on creating a space that still feels familiar and welcoming, while introducing a higher level of quality across food, service and overall experience. We’re opening in stages so we can get each part right.”

Central to the transformation, is the appointment of Head Chef Ashley Nguyen, who brings more than 15 years of experience to the kitchen. Nguyen previously led the kitchen at Tunki Ceviche and Woodfire Grill, where he secured a 2025 AGFG Chef’s Hat and a South Australian Restaurant & Catering Award for Excellence, along with multiple national recognitions.
At the Fed Hotel, his focus will be on shifting expectations of what a suburban pub dining room can offer, with a menu built around quality produce, strong technique and a more refined approach than traditional pub fare.
“There’s a real opportunity here to change expectations of what people think a pub kitchen can deliver,” Nguyen said.
“The focus is on doing things properly — thoughtful dishes, strong technique and consistency. It’s about creating something people will come back for, not just something convenient.”

The venue’s new layout is being shaped around three distinct but connected spaces. The bar will operate as the social heart of the hotel, with beers, wines and cocktails in a relaxed setting. The restaurant will showcase Nguyen’s food direction, while the deck brings a lighter, coastal feel for casual drinks and catch-ups.
The deck and gaming room are already open while final works continue across the remaining areas expected to receive an official opening in June.

Once complete, the Fed Hotel’s boutique accommodation will add another layer to the venue, catering to interstate visitors, coastal weekenders and locals looking for a Semaphore staycation close to Adelaide’s CBD.
With a huge reinvestment, a new food direction and premium rooms on the way, the Fed Hotel is shaping up as one of Semaphore’s most exciting hospitality makeovers, with the venue now open and its next chapter only just beginning.
