Stakes Family Day Races

Family Day Strip ImageThe South Australian Jockey Club’s (SAJC) TattsBet Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival at Morphettville explodes into action this Saturday 12 April, with an outstanding program of racing as Black Type events comprise all eight races on the card. As the name suggests, this Saturday will also be a great day out for the family with an array of FREE rides and entertainment for children to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

A new addition to the SAJC’s racing calendar, Stakes Family Day Races will mark the first time that the Club’s invaluable asset of two tracks at Morphettville has been fully utilised on the one day, with the running of the eight Stakes races to be split across both tracks. The first four races on Saturday will be run on the Parks circuit, and then at “half time”, the retractable Winning Post will be raised and racing will transfer to the course proper for the remainder of the program. Our Racecourse Manager John Tonani, together with his team, is working tirelessly in the current inclement conditions, to prepare both tracks for this weekend’s event. This will also ensure that both tracks are in prime condition for the forthcoming Group 1 events at Morphettville over the ensuing month.

With such a quality program on Saturday featuring three Group 3 events, and five Listed races, it is difficult to single out individual races, however Race 5, the Projection Graphics Redelva Stakes, for three year olds, to be run under set weights and penalties, will certainly excite racegoers. The weights in this 1050 metre race are headed by Phillip Stokes’ classy galloper Eclair Big Bang, who will carry 59kg. Stokes has an impressive two pronged attack in the race as he will also saddle up Lucky Symbol, a winner in four of his five starts. The sentimental favourite in this field will be Dan Clarken’s brilliant filly Miracles Of Life, who was a brave second in her last start in the Manihi Classic to Angels Beach. On a day when interstate horses are scattered consistently throughout the acceptances, four Victorians make up the final field of eleven in the Projection Graphics Redelva Stakes.

This Saturday, Darren Weir will return to Morphettville for the Group 3 R N Irwin Stakes with his elite mare Platelet, who stole most of the limelight at last year’s carnival when she emulated the mighty mare Black Caviar’s performance of the Group 1 double, winning both the Sportingbet Classic and The Goodwood. She is on the same path again this year, and amongst her rivals in Saturday’s R N Irwin Stakes will be two raiders from New South Wales, Gai Waterhouse’s Driefontein, and Clarry Conners’ Satin Shoes, who will both be aiming towards the Group 1 Sportingbet Classic in a fortnight. STAKES FAMILY DAY RACES – Saturday 12 April

The Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes to be run over 1800 metres for three year old fillies, and also under set weights and penalties, sees the most significant interstate representation in a single event on the program, with eleven of the final fifteen travelling to Adelaide from across the border. Darren Weir’s outstanding filly May’s Dream heads the weights in this field with 57kg, and like the other fillies in this race, will be out to stake her claim for the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks at Morphettville on Saturday 26 April.

All eight races at Morphettville on Saturday are an integral part of the TattsBet Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, with several events providing an important stepping stone to even bigger, and more lucrative prizes in the forthcoming Group 1 races.
