Summer Nights on the Balcony at the Town Hall

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood launched Adelaide’s newest place to see and be seen with the who’s who of the city last Friday night.

The Balcony at the Adelaide Town Hall, open Fridays from 4pm during the summer months, is a sophisticated and savvy new bar in a beautiful setting, showcasing the magnificence of the city’s civic heart.

“The Balcony Bar is a fresh, vibrant spot in the heart of the city where people can grab a drink after work in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying being in an iconic, heritage building,” Stephen said.

The space can comfortably hold 80-100 people and patrons can enjoy a variety of drinks with a distinct South Australian flavour.

The balcony is available for corporate and social groups looking for a location with a difference to hold lunch-time and dinner functions or cocktail parties. Encore Catering Group joined the Town Hall a year ago and can supply a variety of food to suit all tastes.

The balcony can also be hired for weddings, as can all the other rooms in the Town Hall, each with their own distinctive style.

“The Town Hall is often used for formal functions and orchestral events, but is not really known as a place for other types of events and we want to change that,” Stephen said.

“Holding a function on the Balcony – or anywhere in the Town Hall – will give people a chance to experience a venue like no other in Adelaide. It’s in a central city location making it easy for people to get to, and provides a unique setting with a real sense of history,” Stephen said.

The Town Hall balcony is well known for a number of high profile events, such as the Beatle’s visit in the 1960s. It was also used as the focal point for the city’s celebrations to welcome the Adelaide Crows following their AFL Grand Final win in the 1990s.

With a new events team looking after Town Hall functions and lighting wizards Proshow Productions available to work their projection and audio visual magic, the Town Hall is moving forward as a modern venue of choice.
