I know it’s been a successful Parklife when I can 1) Name a new artist I’ve never seen before and now love. 2) See an act I formerly liked and now don’t care for. 3) Check a favourite off my must-see list, and 4) Walk past far too many people on my way to the Botanic Gardens who didn’t quite make it past their pre-drinks. I guess that makes 2012 a winner. And while I hope the dubstep isn’t here to stay, I’ll get used to it if I have to. 5 Parklife Festivals later and I’m in no rush to miss out in 2013.
The Beacon Foundation and Coca-Cola Australia Foundation have found an unlikely ambassador in Australian Idol alum and Australian singer Shannon Noll. Since forming in 2011, Beacon has worked with over 130 secondary schools across Australia, helping students to stay in school, or choose the right pathways to help successfully transition into employment, further education or training.
Like most who watch director Wes Anderson’s finely tuned onscreen imaginings, the audience for Tuesday night’s Moonrise Kingdom was fixated on a world of whimsy, hope and desperation. The fact the two main characters were aged 12, and grown men were literally misty-eyed over the star-crossed love story between two preteens was a testament to Moonrise’s dedication to its beauty and fragility.
Guy Sebastian may not think the world is ending in 2012, but his upcoming album, titled Armageddon, isn’t as cheery as we’d expect from the Australian Idol winner turned X-Factor judge.
Who said that good film series should stop at three? The latest of the Bourne series and the first not based on Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels, The Bourne Legacy is less sequel, somewhat prequel and mostly spin-off - not necessarily tying up events which unfolded in The Bourne Ultimatum, but cleverly working together with the series' third film, rebooting the franchise but never aiming to re-brand it ala The Amazing Spiderman or Dark Knight Trilogy did with their superhero figures.
The dichotomy between Ladyhawke’s Pip Brown during and between numbers on her live shows is nothing short of striking. She sneers and snarls on tracks like 'Girl Like Me' and 'Paris Is Burning', yet shyly says on stage after finishing, head facing the ground "...I hate the sound of my own voice". Pip, give yourself a bit more credit - have you heard yourself sing?
Tempah was in London after headlining the annual Jingle Bell Ball and gave up some of his time to speak with Glam Adelaide writer Gianni Borrelli.
