In a recently renovated, 19th century stone cottage, with glorious 15 foot high ceilings, and a beautiful garden, sits Lino Ramble, McLaren Vale’s new cellar door.

Angela Townsend and Andy Coppard, long-time friends and business partners, are the minds behind Lino Ramble.

The Lino Ramble grape varieties are chosen based on sustainability, intrigue, and of course, their drinkability.

“Stylistically, the wines we are doing are a little bit different from what’s been done in McLaren Vale at the moment,” explains Andy.

Originally from the Margaret River, Andy studied viticulture in France, and here in South Australia.

His experiences and valuable knowledge in winemaking have allowed Andy to experiment with different varietals, with his wines incorporating traits from Spanish, Portuguese and Italian varietals.

“We do alternative varieties, particularly whites that are suitable for the warmer climate down here. We are the first to be doing Gillo (a Sicilian varietal) in McLaren Vale,” says Andy.

“Guests visiting the region are used to seeing big bold reds, like Shiraz, whereas we are doing something a little bit different.”

Lino Ramble work with biodynamic farmers and producers to help make their natural (and sustainable as possible) wines.

Their approach to winemaking is hands on, and low intervention.

“To continue our sustainable practice, we are looking at making more climate-appropriate wines in the region,” says Andy.

The cellar door will be open from Wednesday 2 September. At this stage, the cellar door is only offering tastings due to capacity restrictions.

Bookings are essentials to secure your place. It will be open for groups of six or less with tastings sessions held every hour for 45 minutes.

Future plans for the venue include utilising the brand new kitchen, putting on events in their beautiful garden and hopefully hosting a grand opening parting.

The cellar door can be found on McMurtrie Rd, near other great wine labels such as Wirra Wirra and Hugh Hamilton.

The cellar door also houses wines from Sherrah Wines and Bondar Wines
