Winter Whale Fest 2026 is returning to Victor Harbor for the entire month of June, showcasing remarkable marine life and the wild, rugged coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, with more than 30 events that invite you to explore and uncover the magic of the marine world.

Now in its fourth year, the festival celebrates the return of the Southern Right Whales, with this year’s focus on the ancient story of Kondoli – the whale from Ngarrindjeri Dreaming who gave fire to the people – which plays a central role in the events, highlighted with the brilliant Kondoli Lantern Parade on June 20.

Festivities include highly anticipated whale watching, film features, markets, storytelling and intimate workshops, inspiring creativity and fostering a sense of community spirit, bringing connection and warmth away from the winter chills.

Hot on the agenda this year is the Victor Harbor Valhalla Festival on June 6 and 7, celebrating Viking culture on Victor’s shores with the burning of a Viking ship at nightfall, and giving attendees the opportunity to witness living history with combat demonstrations while also reflecting on the impact whales have on Viking history.

Unleash your creativity with watercolour painting sessions and shell rattle making workshops, or have a go at singing sea shanties with a good old-fashioned singalong. Local experts provide fun and informative guided tours of the SA Whale Centre and also along Victor’s foreshore, bringing together knowledge and history, evoking a fond appreciation for the marine world.

“At this time of year, we are reminded of the incredible natural wonder just off our shores, as whales return to our coastline. This festival invites you to slow down, explore, and connect – with nature, with art, and with each other,” says City of Victor Harbor mayor, Dr Moira Jenkins.

“Events like this play an important role in bringing our community together, supporting local businesses and celebrating what makes Victor Harbor such a vibrant and welcoming place to be, year-round,” she says.
