There’s something about the magic of live theatre that feels extra special in winter. Maybe it’s the excuse to dress up, the warmth of a feel-good wholesome story, or the delight of being swept away for a few hours.
Right now, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is delivering all that and more at the Adelaide Festival Centre, and it’s the ultimate pick for a girls night out or an elevated and romantic date night.
The reimagined Disney production reunites members of the original Broadway creative team to give the iconic story a fresh, modern glow-up, and a feast for the senses without losing any of the nostalgic charm.
Shubshri Kandiah stuns as Belle, with a voice that soars and she brings a new kind of heroine to the stage, one that’s booksmart, independent and empowered. The contemporary Belle wears glasses and makes her own choices, and is a powerful role model for young women. Opposite her is Brendan Xavier as Beast, his performance is powerful, described by critics as “vocally exquisite” and “excellent in movement.”
Here’s the places where the cast have been loving across the state…
- Adelaide Oval
- Adelaide Arcade
- Adelaide Zoo
- Shibui Dessert Bar
- Station Road
- Sofitel Adelaide

Dubbed a “Showstopping extravaganza” by Time Out, “Lavish and spellbinding” by The Scoop, “A sumptuous grand scale musical” by the Herald Sun, and “vocally faultless and with equally perfectly executed choreography” by Glam Adelaide, and perfect ratings from The Advertiser and Adelaide Insider, this ensemble is nothing short of 5-star, and now is your final chance to live the magic before the curtain closes.
There’s souring, perfectly pitched ballads, show-stopping sets, lavish gowns, laugh-out-loud moments, and a twinkle of romance to pull at your heart strings and leave you teary eyed.

Behind the visual spectacle you see is technical and intricate magic. Belle’s iconic yellow ballgown features 300-600 crystals, pearls and beads on each petal. There’s over 300 costumes, and 199 wigs in the show, each wig taking 40 hours to knot by hand. The attention to detail is next level, and the result is beauty like you’ve never seen.
Even the choreography feels cinematic. Reimagined by Matt West, it flows seamlessly, the opening act leaves the audience speechless, as cast members transform and levitate in the blink of an eye, and the beast’s final transformation will have you gasping in disbelief.
It’s heartwarming. It’s hilarious. It’s theatrical magic. But most of all, it’s a story that speaks to something deeper, allowing it to transcend the generations and continue to enchant even 30 years after its premiere in 1994.
Disney Theatrical Productions Producer Thomas Schumacher eloquently articulated it; “We’re all Belle. Knowledge is power…, And more than ever before, the power of understanding , empathy sacrifice, and love can always transform ugliness into true beauty.”
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast symbols many things, but at the core it defines beauty. The beauty in creating your own family, of love, and the beauty you find within.
With an award-winning score, mesmerising sets, and unforgettable performances, the musical is a meaningful and fun-filled must-see in Adelaide. According to Thomas, everyone who has worked on the production has been has been transformed by its influence, and this season, you too can be touched by its magic.
