For more than four years, the old Creek Cold Store in Cudlee Creek has been undergoing a significant restoration, transforming into Union Bridge – 1920s-style distillery, brewery, and cellar door.
While the distillery is still being developed, the cellar door has officially opened! You can now visit the historic building and taste some locally made house brews.
Owners Steve O’Connor and Gerri Milham have been brewing Union Bridge beers since 2020, serving stubbies of their local brews, including an IPA, Hard Lemonade, and award-winning Irish Stout, which delivers espresso and dark chocolate aromas.
Guests and Cuddle Creek locals can now enjoy fresh pints of the refreshing beers at the new venue, as well as their vodka and gin.
Steve says their vodka and gin is produced from scratch and produced from grain – one of only a handful of venues to go from grain to glass.
“Many [venues] use an already distilled product, then add botanicals,” says Steve. “This will have a malt/barley flavour, which will be smooth and easy to drink. It will be great to drink neat.”
For the next few weeks, in celebration of the new cellar door, Smokin’ Misfits will be cooking up some great BBQ meats, while the kitchen is still in development. Think pulled pork sliders, Kransky skewers, smoked wings, pickles and more.
When the kitchen is finalised, guests will be able to get their hands on some wood-fired pizzas and tapas.
The cellar door is only one aspect of the long-await project, which is being funded by the South Australian Tourism Commission’s Tourism Industry Development Fund.
The $278,019 grant has aided the completion of the Union Bridge revamp, finalising the cellar door. The remaining funds are being used to further the distillery project and finalise the kitchen.
With a capacity of only 50 people, be sure to book to avoid disappointment.
