This April as Adelaide comes alive for the AFL Gather Round, the Gilbert Place Collective who represent a number of vibrant Westend bars, is gearing up to make a significant impact during this exciting occasion.

Hains & Co, Memphis Slim’s, Shotgun Willie’s, and High Spirits are joining forces to create ‘Home Base,’ the ultimate destination for footy enthusiasts in Adelaide. This initiative, backed by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency, aims to offer a gathering point for fans before, during, and after the games.

“When you can’t make it to a game or secure a ticket, this will be the next best place to be,” Jon Di Pinto, of the Gonzo Group says.

The transformation of the West End laneway into a footy home ground signifies more than just a laneway festival; it intends to be the go-to spot for fans to immerse themselves in match mode, enjoy drinks in good company, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere.

“And when the games at Adelaide Oval are over, it’s only a short walk to Gilbert Place, where you can kick back with friends and enjoy yourself with a drink in hand,” Di Pinto says.

An enormous outdoor screen will ensure that fans won’t miss a single moment of footy madness, with Pirate Life and Jim Beam on hand to quench thirsts.

Marcus Motteram, owner of Hains & Co, highlights the diverse offerings available.

“For those who prefer drinks other than beer, well, our Gilbert Place bars are known for great cocktails, gin, and whiskies,” Motteram says.

In addition to the refreshments, live music curated by Memphis Slim’s and Shotgun Willie’s will take centre stage when games are not in play, featuring a range of acts including Cowboys of Destiny and The South Season.

“We want to showcase SA’s best in live music while we have visitors from interstate,” says Di Pinto. Food vendors will also be on hand to add to the festivities, promising a well-rounded experience for all attendees.

‘Home Base’ at Gilbert Place promises to be an unforgettable merger of footy excitement and the vibrant spirit of Adelaide’s West End. Entry is free, with access available through Gilbert Place via King William Street, behind The Mayfair Hotel. The event is being supported by Pirate Life, Jim Beam, The Adelaide Economic Development Agency & City of Adelaide.
