The Barossa winery with SA’s largest maze is adding a gorgeous new event space to their offering

“We get so, so many inquiries for live music, food and wine events, or people wanting to spend time here, but unfortunately, we just didn’t have enough space for large groups or events,” says Kevin of Ubertas Wines.

But that’s all about to change.

Founded around 12 years ago by brothers Kevin and Phil Liu, after their family relocated to Australia from Taiwan, Ubertas Wines has become known as a peaceful and welcoming little slice of the Barossa, complete with an Asian canteen that pairs Asian street food with local wine to take guests on a journey “from Asia to the Barossa.” Whilst neither wine nor farming had been part of their family’s life back home, the move Down Under sparked an interest in putting down roots of their own… quite literally.

But now, after well over a decade in operation, the family-run winery is entering a new chapter, with a series of upgrades set to transform the Ubertas experience and create more room for visitors to eat, drink, celebrate and soak in the surrounding vineyard – or even hire it out for events of their own.

The changes come in response to what Kevin describes as a “growing demand for events at the winery,” with Ubertas regularly receiving enquiries about live music, food and wine events, birthdays and other celebrations, only to be held back by its current layout.

Now, a brand-new designated events area is taking shape alongside the vineyard. Designed by a local landscaper and expected to be completed in early October, the space will give Ubertas greater flexibility to host private events, celebrations and more casual-style weddings, with the design centred around sweeping views of the vines and the laid-back, leisurely atmosphere the winery is known for.

The new space will complement Ubertas’ modern cellar door, beloved for its expansive picture windows overlooking the vineyard, as well as its iconic Barossa Maze – which Kevin proudly points out is the largest maze in South Australia by size. Come summer, guests will be able to spill out onto the lawns with a picnic and a glass of wine, while winter will bring a cosier atmosphere, with leather couches and a large stone fireplace to settle into. With the venue also available for private hire, Ubertas is hoping to create somewhere visitors can do more than simply stop in for a tasting.

To celebrate the completion of the upgrades, Ubertas will host a free live music event over the October long weekend, from October 3 to 5, inviting guests to make the most of their extra day off with free music and stellar wine (count us in!).

Running from around 11am to 3pm, guests can bring a picnic rug, grab something from the winery’s food and wine selection, and settle in on the lawn for live music from local Barossa act Cloudy, known for her soulful blend of acoustic and roots music.

For now, while further details – and first looks at the upgrades themselves – remain under wraps, it’s a glimpse of the direction Ubertas is heading. Zeroing in on the inviting liveliness they aim to exude, the brothers are hoping the upgrades bring more space, more reasons to visit, and more places for you to gather your nearest and dearest, all in the name of wine and a good time!
