Adelaide’s pre-loved fashion scene is getting a little bigger, with one of the city’s most popular designer resale boutiques preparing to open a second store in North Adelaide.

Better Together, known for its curated racks of second-hand designer clothing and accessories at its King William Road boutique in Hyde Park, will open at 134 Melbourne Street on Saturday, November 14th.

The expansion comes after years of strong demand, with founder Eden Hansen revealing the Hyde Park store has been running with a three to four-month waiting list for rack rentals.

“We’ve got maybe four or five racks left for the rest of the year,” shared Eden. “Since we opened, we’ve had a waitlist, and it just hasn’t stopped.”

With sellers keen to clear out their wardrobes and make some extra money ahead of Christmas, Eden said the timing felt right to expand.

The Melbourne Street store will offer the same shopping experience customers have come to know and love at Hyde Park, with the new space allowing for an even more curated selection.

“The space is a bit smaller, so it’ll be a bit more curated, but the styling, look, feel and experience will be exactly the same,” said Eden.

The new location was a natural fit for the business, with Eden saying the renovated space had the right layout and feel.

The former home of Montezuma’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar has been transformed into a light-filled space with an open floor plan, giving the team room to create the boutique-style experience that has helped build Better Together’s following.

“Melbourne Street is kind of reviving itself now as well, so I think this is 100 per cent the right move for us,” she said.

For Eden, the business has come a long way from its beginnings in 2020, when she was looking for a new direction after COVID disrupted her plans to work as a pilot.

Having studied aviation at university, she found herself facing an uncertain job market during the pandemic. After working for a fashion agency, she decided to use her experience for something she was passionate about.

“I thought I’d take my experience and start a more curated designer pre-loved boutique,” she said. “I think that’s where Better Together has built its name from as well. We’re a bit more curated, and I think the way we market ourselves means we get more of those high-end designer pieces.”

The original boutique began with just 10 racks, but demand quickly outgrew the space, prompting Eden to expand to around 40 racks within two months.

She later moved the business to Hyde Park, where it has operated for around four and a half years. The store has since developed a strong social media presence and a loyal customer base, with shoppers travelling from all around Adelaide to browse its ever-changing collection.

The Melbourne Street opening will also see the return of Better Together Kids, which previously operated as a pop-up on King William Road for around 10 months.

The kidswear range will have its own small section in the new store, with around five or six racks of carefully selected children’s clothing.

“It was loved by all the mums in the area,” Eden said. “We had some very sad shoppers when we closed it, so this is an exciting way to keep the brand going.”
