Adelaide is set for a night of pure orchestral beauty this July as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra presents A Night at the Ballet, celebrating some of the most loved dance music ever written.
While the title might suggest pirouettes and pointe shoes, this is a night that champions iconic music. The symphony orchestra has reimagined the scores that were originally written for ballet and the dance world and will bring them to life with no dancers on stage.
From the grandeur of classical repertoire to compositions that evoke emotion, the program showcases music that has long lived beyond the stage it was created for. These works, ranging from the likes of Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet and Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker to Bernstein’s On the Town and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, are designed to move audiences, not with movement, but with sound.
A Night at the Ballet is the perfect shared experience, designed for anyone looking for a special evening out, whether that’s with a partner, a close friend, a parent, or a group of loved ones. It’s an elegant, easy way to experience orchestral music in one of its most expressive forms.

To take the experience to the next level, ASO has partnered with Sofitel Adelaide to create a one-night-only pre-concert package designed as an indulgent city escape.
Guests can start their evening at Sofitel Adelaide with a two-hour canapé and beverage package, perfectly setting the tone for a relaxed and refined night ahead. The experience also includes an intimate pre-concert conversation featuring Music Director of The Australian Ballet Jonathan Lo and ASO’s Principal Cello Sharon Grigoryan, offering behind-the-scenes insight into the music.
Speaking about Romeo and Juliet, featured in this concert, Johnathon Lo shared, “The music conveys the bittersweetness, the longing and the grief of love promised but ultimately unfulfilled so well. The way the melodies yearn, and the harmonies tangle with dissonances, coupled with the pent-up tension built over the course of the evening, never fails to reach straight into the heart of the audience and musicians.”
From there, it’s a short 15-minute walk to Festival Theatre, where the ASO will take to the stage.

The A Night at the Ballet experience takes place on Saturday, July 25th and is priced at $200 per person, including premium concert tickets, pre-show hospitality and exclusive access to the Sofitel event. If you’re looking to just head to the performance, tickets start from $64.
“I’d like you to leave feeling entertained, transported and curious – even hungry – for more,” said Johnathon Lo
So if you’re looking for an elegant evening out with extraordinary music, this is the perfect choice.
