Adelaide is heading into a mostly calm run of late winter weather, with cool starts, mild afternoons and plenty of sunshine on the way, while parts of regional South Australia continue to keep an eye on flood impacts and a burst of unsettled weather out west.
For Adelaide, Wednesday stays fairly quiet with partly cloudy skies and light winds, and the city is expected to top out at 17 degrees. It’s a cool one across the suburbs too, with 16 degrees forecast for Elizabeth, Glenelg and Noarlunga, and 15 for Mount Barker. After that, the rest of the week looks settled and a little brighter, with Thursday bringing mostly sunny conditions and a top of 19 degrees after a chilly morning low of 8. Light winds will shift northwesterly through the middle of the day before easing again.
Friday and Saturday continue the pleasant stretch, both forecast to reach 20 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Winds remain light, which should make for crisp mornings but comfortable afternoons across the metro area. Sunday looks similar, although a little more cloud is expected early before clearing later in the day. Temperatures will sit just a touch lower at 19 degrees, keeping the weekend feeling fresh rather than cold.
The start of next week brings another lift in temperatures. Monday is shaping up as the pick of the bunch, with sunny skies and a top of 21 degrees after a low of 9. Northerly winds will build during the morning, adding a slightly warmer feel around the city. By Tuesday, the pattern starts to shift again, with cloud increasing and a medium chance of showers developing. Adelaide is forecast to reach 22 degrees, with 0 to 2 millimetres possible, making it the most likely day for rain in the seven-day outlook. For boaties and anyone heading to the coast, Adelaide Metropolitan Waters also look relatively calm through Saturday, with light winds, slight seas and low swell, especially on Wednesday and Friday.
Across the rest of South Australia, the picture is more mixed. A high-pressure system over central SA is helping keep much of the state settled in the short term, but conditions will become more changeable from late Thursday as a trough approaches western districts and lingers into early Saturday. That means the far west is most likely to see showers and possible thunderstorms from Thursday evening, with isolated local falls of 15 to 30 millimetres possible, mainly with storms.
Elsewhere, rainfall totals are generally expected to stay low, broadly less than 2 millimetres, though 5 to 10 millimetres is possible about the ranges, eastern districts and far western parts. Early morning fog and patchy frost are also part of the picture in several districts, including the Eyre Peninsula, areas on and east of the Flinders Ranges, and parts of the southeast and Riverland over coming mornings. Temperatures are mostly running below average today, then lifting closer to or above average through Friday and Saturday, particularly across the Agricultural Area.
