As each week comes and goes, the kids are always looking for something new to do, and it’s not always easy to find the best activities, events and exhibitions happening around Adelaide.
So, we’ve done the hard work for you and rounded up some of the best free and low-cost, family-friendly things happening this week. Enjoy!
Rundle Mall’s 50th Birthday Week | September 1 – 6
Rundle Mall is turning 50, and the city is marking the milestone with six days of free entertainment, activities and surprises.
Across the week, families can jump aboard a free carousel, take home an old-school photobooth snap, catch live music and DJs, explore an interactive display tracing 50 years of Rundle Mall, and keep an eye out for pop-up performances, birthday treats and giveaways.
One of the biggest moments will come on Friday, September 4th from 5pm, when a huge 50th Birthday Parade moves through the Mall with music, movement and colour.

Kids climb free at RoofClimb Adelaide Oval | September 1 – 30
Families looking for something a little more adventurous can take advantage of a new September offer at Adelaide Oval, with kids able to climb RoofClimb for free throughout the month.
From September 1st to 30th, children aged 8 to 15 can join a Day or Twilight RoofClimb for free when accompanied by a paying adult, giving families the chance to take in sweeping views across Adelaide while tackling one of the city’s most unique experiences.
The offer is limited to one free child per paying accompanying adult, with minimum height requirements and other terms and conditions applying.
Kids aged 8–15 free with a paying adult.

The Great Book Swap | September 2
Book-loving families can head into the State Library on Wednesday for its annual Great Book Swap, returning as part of Indigenous Literacy Day.
Visitors can browse the book swap and help support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, which works to get culturally relevant books into remote Indigenous communities.
The event is free to attend and no booking is required.
Free, with donations encouraged.

Lunch on the Lawns at Government House | September 4
Pack a picnic and spend Friday lunchtime somewhere families don’t normally get to spread out on the grass.
Government House will open its gates from 12pm to 2pm for the latest Lunch on the Lawns, with the City of Adelaide Concert Band providing live entertainment.
There will also be complimentary guided tours of the Government House gardens from 10:45am to 11:45am, although bookings are required for the tours.

Bonython Park Super Carnival | September 4 – 6
Bonython Park will transform into a mini showground from Friday, with the Super Carnival bringing rides, sideshow games, market stalls, showbags and entertainment to the city.
Families can catch free daily circus shows, including The Amazing Drumming Monkeys and The Funny Farmers, alongside fire-breathers, a petting zoo and roving entertainers. Friday and Saturday nights will also finish with fireworks.
Entry is just $5 per person, while children under five are free. Rides, games and other attractions cost extra.

Start at the Gallery: Kaleidoscope of Colour | September 6
The Art Gallery of South Australia’s monthly Start at the Gallery day returns on Sunday with four hours of completely free activities for children aged three to 12.
Families can explore the Nylon Zoo inflatable playground, make art, dance through the Gallery, join drawing tours, listen to storytelling and catch Balinese Gamelan performances. There will also be two performances of Pico and the Golden Lagoon, combining puppetry, live music and storytelling.

LEGO Club | September 6
For a simple free Sunday activity, Adelaide City Library runs its LEGO Club every Sunday with no bookings required.
Children aged four and over can get stuck into the Library’s LEGO collection and build whatever their imagination comes up with. Children aged 10 and under need to be accompanied by an adult.
