Adelaide is in for a wet and blustery Tuesday before a calmer, brighter run of late winter weather settles in across the week, with sunshine returning by Thursday and mild daytime temperatures building into the weekend.
For today, the city is under cloudy skies with a very high chance of rain, and Adelaide residents can expect a chilly top of 17 degrees. Southerly winds of 25 to 35 km/h will add a wintry edge, especially near the coast, before easing later tonight. Rain is forecast to become less likely by late afternoon and evening, so while commuters may be dealing with a soggy start and damp roads, conditions should gradually improve by tonight. Across the suburbs, tops are expected to hover between 15 and 17 degrees, including 16 at Glenelg and 15 at Mount Barker.
The middle of the week looks far more settled. Wednesday brings a partly cloudy day with light winds and a cool start of 8 degrees before reaching 17. After today’s rain and gusty conditions, that should come as welcome news for anyone heading back outdoors. Thursday is shaping up as the pick of the work week, with sunny skies, light winds early and a top of 19 degrees. Winds will turn north to northwesterly during the morning, but conditions should stay pleasant right across the city.
By Friday, Adelaide keeps that relatively calm pattern with partly cloudy skies and a top of 20 degrees. Light winds will make for an easy end to the working week, even as another trough begins to affect western parts of the state. Into the weekend, Saturday holds a partly cloudy outlook with just a slight chance of a shower and a top of 21 degrees, while Sunday looks mostly sunny and seasonably mild with 20 degrees. Monday rounds out the seven-day outlook with sunshine and another top of 21 degrees, giving Adelaide a steadily improving finish to August after today’s cold and wet front.
Across regional South Australia, Tuesday remains the most unsettled day of the stretch. Showers are expected around the Agricultural Area, the Flinders Ranges and nearby districts, with rain more likely through central and eastern parts of the Agricultural Area during the morning before contracting eastwards. There is also the possibility of thunderstorms in the northeast through the morning and afternoon. Temperatures are generally expected to stay below average today, with fresh southwesterly winds about central and eastern coastal fringes and eastern inland areas. Conditions ease on Wednesday under a high pressure system, though parts of Eyre Peninsula, the Flinders and nearby districts may see early fog and frost. Thursday turns mostly dry for much of the state, but showers and possible thunderstorms are likely to develop in the far west from late afternoon and evening. By Friday, western districts remain the focus for showers and possible thunderstorms, while most other parts stay dry. Rainfall totals to the end of Friday are expected to be heaviest across parts of the West Coast, Agricultural Areas, southern Eyre, Yorke and Fleurieu Peninsulas, and the Mount Lofty Ranges, where local heavier falls are possible with thunderstorms.
