A minor flood warning has been issued for the Onkaparinga River, with flooding possible at Oakbank from early Tuesday morning as more rain moves across the Adelaide Hills.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued the initial warning at 1:44pm on Monday, August 24, advising moderate to potentially locally heavy rainfall was expected across the Onkaparinga catchment through the remainder of Monday and into Tuesday.
The rainfall could cause minor flooding along the Upper Onkaparinga River above Verdun, with Oakbank currently the key area being monitored.
At 12:06pm Monday, the Onkaparinga River at Oakbank was sitting at 0.19 metres and steady, well below the minor flood level of 1.17 metres.
However, the Bureau has warned the river may rise to around the minor flood level from early Tuesday morning as further rain falls across the catchment.
The latest Oakbank forecast, issued at 2:55pm Monday, predicts between 10 and 25mm of rain for the remainder of the day, with a 100 per cent chance of rain. Another 4 to 15mm is forecast on Tuesday, also with a 100 per cent chance of rain.
Rain is expected to continue through Tuesday morning and afternoon before conditions ease significantly on Wednesday, when no rainfall is currently forecast.
At the time the flood warning was issued, river gauges at Charleston, Woodside, Oakbank, Verdun, Houlgraves, Clarendon Weir and Old Noarlunga were all reported as steady.
Residents and motorists in affected areas are being urged to keep away from flooded rivers, creeks, drains and waterways and to never drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater.
Road closure signs should also be obeyed, with conditions able to change quickly as rainfall continues.
The Bureau continues to monitor rainfall and river levels across the Onkaparinga catchment, with further warnings to be issued if conditions change.
