State Opera SA’s Golden Jubilee Gala is bringing 50 years of opera to Adelaide for one glamorous night

State Opera South Australia is marking its 50th anniversary with a glamorous black-tie gala celebrating the company’s remarkable history.

State Opera South Australia is celebrating a very exciting milestone in glittering style, with a spectacular 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner, bringing together food, wine, celebrated performers and five decades of South Australian opera on September 11th.

The black-tie celebration will take over the new Amora Hotel Adelaide for an evening dedicated to the artists, audiences and supporters who have helped shape the company since it first took to the stage 50 years ago.

Set to be one of the first events held in the hotel’s newly reimagined Ballroom, the Gala Dinner is sure to be a suitably glamorous celebration, with premium South Australian wines and an exquisite menu featuring lobster canapés, especially created by the Hotel’s Executive Chef for the evening.

But, of course, the real star of the evening will be the music.

Guests will be taken on a journey through State Opera South Australia’s remarkable five-decade history, while getting a glimpse at what is ahead for the company.

The evening will feature performances from a star-studded cast of State Opera artists including, Charlotte Kelso, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, and Nick Lester, adding a little star power to the already impressive celebration and getting closer to this talent than you would ever normally be able to.

“This landmark event will honour the artists, audiences, supporters, and partners who have shaped our company over the past five decades,” shared State Opera South Australia Executive Director Mark Taylor.

“Guests will look back on the remarkable journey that has brought the company to this milestone, and will celebrate and reflect on the defining moments that have made State Opera what it is today.”

Founded 50 years ago, State Opera has grown into South Australia’s premier opera company, presenting productions not just in Adelaide but across regional communities, schools and other venues throughout the state.

Its Jubilee year has included performances at Her Majesty’s Theatre and the Barossa Valley, with the State Opera Chorus also set to close out the year at St Peter’s Cathedral.

The company is also continuing its focus on nurturing the next generation of South Australian artists through its Resident and Emerging Artists Program, while supporting the local creatives who help bring productions to life.

Around 80 per cent of State Opera’s crew and makers are local, including costume makers, set builders, designers, lighting technicians and other behind-the-scenes professionals.

The Gala Dinner will serve as more than just a night of celebration, with proceeds helping support the company’s ongoing work, including emerging artists, new productions, education programs and regional performances.

Tickets are selling fast, and there are limited tables of 10 still available and individuals and other smaller groups are encouraged to join as well. And for those attending the Gala, the dress code is suitably spectacular, black tie, with a golden note.
