Adelaide’s Schützenfest to celebrate everything German this February

Adelaide’s 57th Schützenfest will showcase German food, music, beers, dancing, and entertainment in the Adelaide Parklands in February.

The South Australian German Association is hosting its 57th Schützenfest in the Adelaide Parklands in February.

It will be a fantastic event showcasing everything German including German food, German music, various German beers on tap, German dancing, and entertainment for children on Saturday.

The main pavilion will have two stages with non-stop entertainment, seating and shade, and not one but two dance-floors. Just as you’d find in Germany. You can listen to the authentic German music provided by the Adelaide German Band, Adelaide Accordion Orchestra, Bund der Bayern, Heidi and Herman Duet, the Feierabend Euroband, and DJ Herbert Stauber.

A Schützenfest would not be a Schützenfest without shooting, so a shooting range will be set up, supervised by the licensed German Club Shooting group. There’s also a ‘strong arm’ and ‘best dressed’ competitions and a Bavarian dancing class hosted by Bund der Bayern.

Bringing the kids? Not to worry, they’ve got you sorted, too. Entertainment for children includes face-painting, glitter tattoo painting, balloon twisting, bubble shows and circus workshops.

The original Schützenfest’s humble beginnings was in Germany in the 1500’s and commenced in Adelaide in 1890 with a picnic organised in Walkerville. The last Schuetzenfest held in the Parklands was in 2016, in Rymill Park.

Put on your German dirndl and/or leaderhosen and join in on the fun. Cheers to that!
