A South Australian VEX Robotics team qualified this year as the only team from the state for the world’s largest robotics competition; the VEX Robotics World Championships, held in Dallas, Texas.
The team ‘NextGen’ brought home the prestigious VEX Robotics World Championship Sportsmanship Award Winner in the first-ranked High School Engineering Division.
Made up of seven senior students from Pedare Christian College at Golden Grove, Lysander, Rayaan, Hanco, Jonathan, Hiranya, Aidan, and Lachlan, the team travelled to America to showcase their robot’s capabilities on a global stage, and made SA incredibly proud.
So what is VEX Robotics? It’s a program designed for students from reception through to university that can be taught within classrooms or at a competitive level through the VEX Robotics Competition program. The VEX Robotics World Championships is held in the USA each year and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest robotics competition.
In 2024, around 117,000 people from over 70 countries went to compete. Among 820 teams, and infront of a massive audience of approximately 117,000 people, the ‘NextGen’ SA team showcased their skills on a global stage.
They secured their spot to compete in the prestigious World Championship after winning the Australian National Championship in December last year, where they were honoured with an Excellence Award.
The team of passionate and talented students not only competed against the world’s top VEX Robotics teams, but excelled with their communication, teamwork and professionalism.
With the 2024/2025 VEX Robotics season underway, ‘NextGen’ has inspired all Australian teams competing this year. Pedare Christian College will host the Regional Competitions from Years 4 to 12 from August through to October this year, providing a platform for the next generation of innovators and problem solvers to shine.
