Adelaide’s underground French brasserie is taking diners on a culinary tour of France

La Louisiane is taking Adelaide diners on a delicious journey through France with two lavish regional dinners celebrating the rich flavours of the South West and North West.

If you’re craving a French escape without booking a flight, Adelaide’s chicest underground brasserie is taking you there with a two-night culinary journey through some of France’s most delicious regions.

La Louisiane is continuing its regional dinner series this winter, with two special evenings taking diners from the South West of France to the rugged North West, all from its cosy basement home at 89 King William Street.

The first stop is the South West on Thursday, August 27th, followed by the North West on Thursday, September 24th.

For the August dinner, guests will be transported to the Périgord and Pays Basque regions with a four-course set menu designed to be shared between two, priced at $90 per person.

The menu opens with foie gras, toasted brioche and mandarin marmalade, before moving into a Salade Périgourdine with smoked duck ham, Ossau Iraty, eggs and walnut.

The star of the evening is a classic cassoulet, packed with white beans, pancetta and confit duck legs, and dessert comes in the form of Gâteau Basque with crème anglaise and almond cake.

Naturally, the food comes with the option to make the evening even more French, with carefully selected regional wines available by the glass or bottle.

The evening will be accompanied by La Louisiane’s signature jazz, adding to the feeling that you’ve somehow wandered into a late-night Parisian basement rather than Adelaide’s CBD.

The second regional dinner will head north-west on September 24th. That evening will celebrate France’s rugged coastline, abundant seafood and classic regional flavours, with highlights including galette toast with ham and Gruyère, mouclade with mussels and saffron, and Far Breton for dessert.

The regional dinners are the latest chapter for La Louisiane, the late-night French brasserie which opened back in 2023.

The basement venue was created as an escape into 1930s France, blending traditional French food and wine with live jazz, cocktails and a distinctly modern Adelaide edge.

At the helm of the kitchen is Head Chef Alexis Besseau, whose impressive career has taken him from culinary school in France to kitchens including Paris’ acclaimed l’Arpège, as well as restaurants across London, Switzerland and Brazil. He has also worked at Sydney venues including Bathers Pavilion and Franca.

Alexis has brought a love of classic French cooking to Adelaide, with La Louisiane’s broader menu featuring brasserie favourites including beef tartare, escargots and steak frites, alongside locally sourced South Australian produce and selected French ingredients.

While the regional dinners offer something a little different, they fit neatly into La Louisiane’s broader mission to make diners feel like they’ve stepped into another era.

The South West dinner takes place from 6pm on Thursday, August 27th. But if one French feast isn’t enough, booking both regional dinners means you’ll finish your culinary journey with Champagne in hand. Consider it the closest thing to a French getaway without leaving Adelaide.
