Adelaide is heading into a cold, showery stretch this week, with rain increasing from tonight before conditions gradually settle across the weekend and a milder start to next week.
After a partly cloudy start on Tuesday, showers are expected to build across Adelaide by the evening as a cold front moves through South Australia. Northerly to northwesterly winds will keep things brisk during the day, and the city is only forecast to reach 16 degrees. Through Wednesday, that wet pattern hangs around, with showers most likely early before beginning to ease later in the day. It will stay cool, with a top of 15 degrees and fresh west to southwesterly winds adding an extra bite.
Thursday looks a little calmer but not completely dry, with cloudy skies and the chance of a shower or two still in the mix. Winds are expected to ease during the morning, though temperatures will remain cool, reaching around 16 degrees. Friday follows a very similar pattern, with cloud lingering over the city, a possible light shower and light winds. Adelaide’s maximum is again expected to sit at 16 degrees, keeping the city in a run of below-average August temperatures.
The weekend brings a slight improvement. Saturday is forecast to be partly cloudy, with just a slight chance of a shower and the possibility of morning fog about the hills. Light winds and a top of 17 degrees should make for a more comfortable day, especially compared with the blustery middle of the week. Sunday continues that settled trend, with partly cloudy skies, light winds becoming easterly during the day, and another top of 17 degrees.
By Monday, Adelaide should see the mildest conditions of the seven-day stretch. Partly cloudy skies are forecast, along with only a slight chance of a shower, and temperatures are expected to lift to 19 degrees. It is not quite a full spring preview yet, but after several grey and chilly days, it will feel like a welcome shift.
Across regional South Australia, the cold front is set to bring a broader band of showers and gusty winds from today into early Wednesday. Southern coasts will see the first of the rain, with showers becoming more widespread through the west coast, Agricultural Areas and south of the Pastoral districts by this evening. There is also the chance of isolated thunderstorms about Kangaroo Island, southern coastal fringes and around the Flinders Ranges and adjacent areas.
Inland areas, especially parts of the Pastoral districts, could also see patchy morning fog and frost over the next few days, while maximum temperatures stay below average across much of the state. Rainfall totals through to the end of Friday are expected to stay relatively modest in many areas, but the Agricultural Area and Flinders Ranges could pick up 2 to 15 mm, with isolated falls of 15 to 25 mm possible about the ranges and western facing coasts.
Conditions will also be rough along parts of the coast and local waters midweek, with strong winds and choppy seas expected before easing into Thursday and Friday.
Happy Tuesday!
