As the festive season approaches, the quest for the perfect gift intensifies. This year, a unique and heartwarming gift idea is set to top the charts, combining aesthetics, meaning, and affordability.

Introducing ‘Be the Light’, a delightful ‘plant in a light bulb’ gift priced from under $45, designed to sprinkle a touch of joy and gratitude in our lives.

The brainchild of Adelaide’s Jessica Gray, ‘Be the Light’ is more than just a gift; it’s a story of inspiration and resilience. Jessica’s journey to Uganda exposed her to the incredible spirit of the locals who, despite their challenging lives, radiated positivity and gratitude.

Among them was Barney, a former child soldier with dreams as vast as the sky. To help him secure a piece of land in a safe village, Jessica initiated the “Light up the World” project, selling 250 candles to raise the required $5000. This endeavour was the spark that led to the creation of ‘Be the Light’.

Jessica shares, “Be the Light was born from a desire to play a role in sharing the importance of kindness and gratitude.” She adds, “I was inspired by the gratitude and resilience displayed by the Ugandan locals I met. I wanted to encapsulate that essence in a product that spreads light, awareness, and the profound impact of simple acts of kindness.”

Launched in 2021, ‘Be the Light’ has witnessed a surge in popularity, prompting Jessica to transition from her corporate role to focus on this venture full-time. These unique gifts are versatile, making them ideal for various occasions, from Christmas and birthdays to weddings and corporate events. Moreover, they offer a sustainable and stylish alternative to traditional gifts like flowers.

Jessica reflects on the feedback, saying, “The feedback we have received from customers is truly humbling.” She continues, “They love that the gift serves as a little reminder to be the light in someone’s world, and it often serves as a conversation starter. But they also appreciate its aesthetic appeal.”

With a shelf life of up to two years, these gifts are designed for longevity. They can be repurposed with new plants or recycled entirely, aligning with sustainable gifting trends.

Philanthropy remains at the heart of ‘Be the Light’. A portion of the proceeds from sales is donated to charities resonating with Jessica’s mission. Additionally, she donates trays of plants weekly, offering plant therapy to those in need.

For those eager to light up someone’s day, ‘Be the Light’ can be purchased online with national delivery or in-person at the 4 Ommade Meet the Maker locations in West Lakes, Marion, Tea Tree Plaza Westfields, and Rundle Place Shopping Centre in Adelaide.
