Winter just got warmer in the Clare Valley, with Clare Rise Bakery 1895 opening its second store in the heart of Clare, bringing freshly baked pastries and homemade breads back to the town’s main street.
The new bakery replaces Main Street Bakehouse, which closed its doors earlier this year, after 20 years of trading.
A boozy Chicken Riesling Pie, giving a nod to the region’s landscape, vegetarian pastries, fresh salad rolls, and their popular selection of sourdough are all featured on the new main street menu.
The original Clare Rise Bakery 1895 opened a decade ago, in a cottage nestled amongst vines on the outskirts of Clare and is still a popular spot to stop to take in the scenery over a cuppa and cake.
Sanjay Chandpuram and his family of talented bakers took over the business in 2021, and continue to supply baked goods to the region, including the award-winning Watervale Hotel, Velvet and Willow Pantry in Auburn , businesses in Burra and Rhynie, as well as a number of the country district’s sporting clubs.
“There were a lot of people asking for fresh pies and pasties to be available in the Main Street again, after the closing of the old bakery,” Sanjay said.
“We saw a need for fresh, quick and affordable food.”
Locals and tourist embraced the opening of the new store, with 400 half-priced coffees helping ward off the chilly Clare Valley winter weather on the Bakery’s recent open day.
In addition to the usual fare, Clare Rise also sells a Chicken and Green Peppercorn Pie and a scrumptious Almond Croissant, as well as its award-winning ciabatta and sourdough breads in white and dark rye.
However, the custard-filled Vanilla Slice continues to be a top seller.
The new Clare Rise Bakery is located at 269 Main North Road Clare, and is open seven days a week.
