Crowne Plaza Adelaide appoints Shaun Parsons as new General Manager

The new GM formerly managed 6 incredible hotels in Dubai including the 5-star Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre, Le Meridien Fairway and pre-opening responsibilities for Aloft and Element Garhoud and Aloft and Element Al Raffa.

Mr Shaun Parsons has been appointed as General Manager of Crowne Plaza Adelaide, joining the team after recently returning to Australia following a 14-year tenure with the Marriott/Starwood group in the Middle East.

Excited about the appointment and opportunity to bring his experience to SA, Shaun says, “I have travelled to South Australia many times to visit friends. This State has so much to offer. A tapestry of rich history, diverse cultures, engaging lifestyle, some of the best produce in the world, not to mention the best wines in the world. There is a huge opportunity in South Australia and more specifically, Adelaide to emerge from the challenges of the last 2-3 years with great optimism.”

Shaun plans to make an impact and to have his voice heard. He is already advocating for the return of workers
to the city of Adelaide and encouraging visitation to the CBD to bring life back to bars, restaurants, retail and
hotels.

Crowne Plaza Adelaide owner, Theo Samaras welcomes Shaun’s wealth of experience. Mr Samaras says, “As owners of the Crowne Plaza Adelaide, we recognise the uncertain and dynamic times we are in and have been working diligently to pivot our business and remain flexible. As everyone is aware, 2021 was an extremely challenging year in our industry and unfortunately, 2022 is heading in a very similar direction. We continue to
remain optimistic and welcome initiatives such as the Great State Vouchers with open arms to stimulate visitation and travel across South Australia.”

“I am very fortunate to be joining IHG and working at the new Crowne Plaza Adelaide being the third largest hotel in Adelaide with 329 guest rooms and located in the vibrant East End, diagonally across from Lot Fourteen, close to major attractions and walking distance to arguably the world’s most picturesque sporting precinct.” Says Shaun.

“With unrivalled views of Adelaide, integrated technologies, 450 sq. meters of flexible events space, communal and inspiring co-working spaces, a fully-equipped gym and a show stopping rooftop infinity pool the hotel has so much to offer to our guests” says Shaun.

Shaun has extensive hotel experience with his most recent role as Multi Property General Manager, overseeing 6 hotels in Dubai including the 5-star Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre, Le Meridien Fairway and pre-opening responsibilities for Aloft and Element Garhoud and Aloft and Element Al Raffa.

He joined Marriott/Starwood group in the Middle East in 2006 in a position that required a strong Food & Beverage skillset and his success saw him quickly move into a Hotel Manager role across the stunning Mina Seyahi Complex which consists of two world-class 5 star beach resorts and marina complex. Thereafter he assumed responsibility for Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi before returning to Dubai in 2015 to lead the iconic Le Meridien Dubai Complex.

Shaun will be turning his vast experience in managing restaurants and bars to Adelaide’s highest restaurant, Koomo and poolside bar and cocktail lounge, Luna10, both of which are located on Level 10 of Crowne Plaza Adelaide.

Like so many others, the pandemic prompted Shaun to make his way home to Australia and he will be joined by his wife and children in Adelaide. He is looking forward to capitalising on all Adelaide has to offer as Crowne Plaza Adelaide grows its reputation in Australia as the Country’s leading Business Hotel (as awarded by HM Awards 2021).
