Once upon a time, long ago, a small fig tree sapling was planted. Now, 120 years later, its colossal gnarled limbs and its canopy of shimmering leaves have formed natural rooms to dine during the summer months.

Reopening its limbs for the 2021-22 summer season, the Enchanted Fig Tree on Kangaroo Island has a secret, and there’s nothing like it anywhere else in the world…

Wilderness dining event specialists, Gastronomo Dining are delighted to announce that The Enchanted Fig Tree has opened again this summer, despite all the challenges of the Pandemic!

Visitors to the island will continue to be treated to magical sun-dappled lunches and starlight dinners set inside an ancient living fig tree that is over 130 years old.

Unequalled anywhere else in the world, it is here where the magic begins… Like stepping into the pages of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree, The Enchanted Fig Tree dining is nothing short of extraordinary.

The experience takes guests on a culinary adventure that extends far beyond the tantalising dishes served to private tables set out within the fig trees 25-metre-wide canopy.

Without giving too much away, guests are treated to a selection of progressive courses and tastes served in private dining grottos that have been naturally created by the fig tree’s gnarled limbs and canopy over time. Diners can expect a hint of local history, a splash of fairy-tale, and a sprinkle of the unexpected!

This year Gastronomo director Nick Hannaford has teamed up with his talented sister and Chef Rachel Hannaford who’s very diverse career includes cooking for celebrities such as Mick Jagger and The Dali Lama.

Rachel will be showcasing some of her favourite culinary flavours from the Mediterranean, artfully blending them with some of Kangaroo Island’s best produce and locally foraged foods collected right from the shores of Snelling Beach where the fig tree grows.

The Enchanted Fig Tree opens for lunches on the 16th December 2021 – 4 April 2022 and opens for dinners each Friday and Sunday nights from the 6th January – 6th March.
