FIRST LOOK: A new chapter unfolds in North Adelaide for the iconic One Rundle Trading Co.

After two and a half decades of successful trade and an established identity, the sister duo is taking on a new postcode.

When sisters Amanda Swale and Josephine Marshall first walked into their new shop 25 years ago, they were blown away by the sheer size of it.

“We were totally overwhelmed at how enormous it was and how on earth we were ever going to fill this space,” Amanda recalls of the former 1920s Melbourne Picture Theatre in Dulwich, which became home to their iconic interiors store, One Rundle Trading Co.

Fast forward two and a half decades of successful trade and an established identity, and the duo is taking on a new adventure – and a new postcode.

On Wednesday, the doors officially opened to the brand new One Rundle Trading Co. along the leafy Melbourne Street, offering a refined evolution of what customers know and love.

“The picture theatre was wonderful, but business has changed and times have changed, and we felt that it was time to reinvent One Rundle,” says Amanda.

“There isn’t a need for furniture retail as much now because people shop online, and that wasn’t the case 20 years ago.”

Known for its curated selection of English countryside-inspired furniture, fashion, homewares, antiques, and home decor, the new store pares things back while still keeping its unique charm and quality.

“We’ve done a deep dive into the business, and we’ve brought the best of the best with us. We’ve curated the best of One Rundle into Melbourne Street,” says Amanda.

“We’re focusing on beautiful fashion, homewares, flowers, we still do events, and my sister has gone on to doing One Rundle interiors, fine art and antiques.”

And while the selection oozes premium, it’s not exclusively for big spenders.

“We’ve brought things like the Cire Trudon, which is the oldest candle makers in the world, but we’ve created price points at every level. It’s offering beautiful products at different price points.”

What continues to set One Rundle apart is its authenticity. Built on travel, experience, and the timeless English countryside style, at its heart, the brand is a labour of love.

“Over the years, an English country house gathers beautiful pieces from travels all over the world through four, even six generations of family. The house is packed to the gills with amazing pieces that aren’t necessarily all from the same period or genre, but they all go together beautifully,” Amanda explains.

“That’s at our core. We are very true to the fact that we don’t buy anything we don’t love, and to be allowed to do something you love for 25 years is an honour and a treat.”

The location might have changed, but the warm and familiar faces of the Dulwich store remain.

“We’ve brought all of our staff with us, so the old faces will be seen. It’s just a fun, pared-back version of what we did.”

Set in the beautiful heritage building across from The Old Lion Hotel, the Melbourne Street store is everything One Rundle stands for: “Warm and inviting, slightly luxurious, but still very comfortable and homely.”
