The wait is finally over. Midday Eatery has landed in the inner west, and it didn’t take long before it became a spot locals visit and keep coming back to as part of their lunchtime rhythm.

What began as a fresh new addition to the inner-west lunch scene has quickly become a local favourite for quick, quality meals, whether they’re grabbing lunch on the run or taking a well-earned break from the day.

For husband and wife owners, Daniel and Rosy, the response has been bigger than they ever anticipated.

“Even on a stormy, horrible day, you’ve got people running in under the shelter saying ‘thank God you’re open’ … it’s kind of warming,” said Daniel.

The pair are no strangers to the Adelaide food scene. After years of running Phat Head Dumplings through countless festivals, they were accustomed to long hours, packed crowds and the chaos of catering. Midday Eatery has allowed them to enjoy a change in pace, engage with customers and notice when familiar faces make a return.

“Just having that conversation is really rewarding.”

The colourful and concise Vietnamese-inspired menu has quickly earned a loyal following, with generous bánh mìs packed to the brim, nourishing rice bowls and house-made Vietnamese iced coffee that are canned on site to suit busy days. While the savoury menu is seeing plenty of love, it’s the desserts that have become the unexpected favourites.

“The cheesecakes have been popping off … we’re barely keeping up!”

But Midday Eatery was always intended to be more than a place to pick up lunch. From the beginning, Daniel and Rosy imagined the space as somewhere that could bring the community together, encouraging people to stay and chat, rather than rush straight back to work.

And they’re already looking beyond midday service for those who are hungry for more.

“We definitely want to work towards opening on a Friday night and rotating a set menu.”

The couple hope to introduce Friday night dining in hopes of expanding the Beverley nightlife scene, very shortly after conquering the lunchtime rush. The idea for Midday Social Club is in its early stages, however, it is a way to include their catering connections and showcase a variety of different cuisines and meals outside of their usual focus.

While those plans are still taking shape, the strong community response has been overwhelming for the couple, who are nothing but grateful for the support and love.

“It’s just been really nice to hear people’s positivity.”
