Alice Springs Comedy Showcase brings to the Fringe Simon Cheers, Chris Little, Amna Bee and Prince Pout III, all the way from the red centre for an early evening laugh at the Griffins Hotel. Now to say this show is professional comedians providing a top quality show would be far from the truth. However, if you don’t mind laughing out loud to some random comments and bizarre stories then this show is great. The effort was there and I could imagine that on a Friday night in Alice these three guys and a girl would be a quality night out. Nerves most certainly played a part in each of the performances on this occasion unfortunately.
First up is Simon Cheers who sets the mood well and gives you a few good laughs with strong material. Chris Little seems slightly confused about what his material is but that makes his set somehow funny in its self just by the sheer confusion of it. Amna relys on cultural based comedy but it is a bit washed away by her stage persona as she hides behind the mic stand. Lastly we have Prince Pout III who brings the outlandish homosexual humor complete with a wardrobe to match.
Most adequately described as a train wreck that you just can’t look away from I found myself feeling bad for laughing at the terribleness but feeling good about how strangely satisfying the show was. I was entertained and left feeling happy, so really it was successful comedy show.
A good show to kick off your night and the best bit is, it is in a really good Fringe venue.
