It should be surprising that one of the most popular songs from the stage musical Annie Get Your Gun didn’t make it into this comedy cabaret but then again, nothing expected should be expected from the likes of Tash York or Dolly Diamond.

Tash York is the queen of Australian cabaret comedy. She’s a woman in drag because she wants a man’s wage. With an extraordinary voice and vocal range, and no filter on her content, there seems nothing this diva can’t do. She’s a comedy queen, singing sensation, and busty babe all rolled into one big bundle of fun.

Dolly Diamond (Michael Dalton) is one of Australia’s premiere cabaret drag queens, who can belt out a tune with breathy seductiveness, and work an audience into a frenzy of laughter with her sharp tongue and quick quips that never offend or embarrass, but are always delivered with bite.

Together, Diamond and York are the jewel in the crown for the final week of the Adelaide Fringe. Attention Seekers finds these two divas lovingly trying to outshine each other while simultaneously applauding the overwhelming talent on stage. It’s an important point because neither star is ever nasty or cruel. They bring forth the bitch with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Each gets their moment to shine, in particular York, with her ability to create a song on the fly based on audience choices. But they’re best when they’re together. They sing up a storm, bounce off each other like old friends, and fill the tent with a whole lot of laughter, love, and feel-good vibes.

The tragically short season of Attention Seekers deserves everyone’s attention. There could be no better or happier way to end the 2023 Adelaide Fringe.
