Swan Reach Observatory is inviting a limited number of visitors to explore the universe through its world-class, research-grade telescope, with tickets now available for its first public trial season.

Digital Outreach and Events Lead, Kate Wills said they cannot wait for the public to experience their tours, boasting that the PlaneWave CDK700 telescope “brings deep space into breathtaking clarity.”
Kate said the observatory has curated three unique experiences for trial ticket holders to make the most of its highly anticipated tour trials, running across August and September.
The first experience, The Dark Sky Discovery, is designed for up to 20 people and is perfect for families and beginners stepping into the world of astronomy. Guests begin with a 20-minute introduction to how the telescope operates before being guided through the wonders of the universe.
The Deep Space Experience is led by Professor Don Bursill, who will guide smaller groups through the more technical side of astronomy and the telescope. It has been created for passionate space enthusiasts who want to explore astronomy and astrophotography in more detail.
And finally, The Lunar Sessions are all about capturing the magic of the moon, with a maximum of 20 guests enjoying a personal and up-close journey across the surface of our closest neighbour.

Located around 90 minutes from Adelaide, the observatory is tucked within the heart of the River Murray International Dark Sky Reserve, Australia’s first dark sky reserve. Here, you’ll find sprinkles of stars illuminating the night and creating a breathtaking celestial playground unlike anywhere else in SA.
Kate said Swan Reach Observatory have spent the past few months calibrating and organising small, exclusive tours, but with the public demand and buzz soaring, they are looking at running regular sessions throughout the year.
Kate hopes the tours will encourage “awe, wonder, connection, appreciation and education for dark skies.”
As the experiences rely on crystal clear night skies, all tours are weather-dependent. Guests will be notified 24 hours before their session if rain, heavy clouds or strong winds force a cancellation, with the full ticket price automatically refunded.
Begin your journey amongst the cosmos, see our world in extraordinary clarity and experience the ultimate quiet.
