The wintry weather continues this weekend with today’s calmer conditions giving way to a wetter, windier weekend before showers gradually ease later in the week.
For Friday, Adelaide is set for a mostly sunny day with a top of 17 degrees, though there’s a medium chance of showers arriving this evening. Light winds will stay fairly gentle through the day before turning northerly tonight, so while it should feel pleasant enough for much of the day, anyone heading out later may want an umbrella on hand.
The real change arrives on Saturday as a cold front moves across South Australia, bringing a sharp shift in conditions for Adelaide. Cloud will build early, with showers becoming highly likely by late morning and into the afternoon. Rainfall totals of 2 to 10mm are possible, and northerly winds will strengthen before swinging westerly around the middle of the day. Those winds are expected to become quite gusty, helping keep the temperature down to just 15 degrees after a morning low of 10. If you’ve got weekend plans, this looks like the day most likely to feel raw, blustery and wet.
Sunday keeps the unsettled pattern going, with another cloudy day and a very high chance of showers. Adelaide can expect a top of 15 degrees after a low of 9, with westerly winds turning northwesterly in the afternoon. Rainfall of 2 to 8mm is possible, so it won’t be a washout every minute, but there’ll be enough passing showers to make outdoor plans a bit hit and miss.
Monday brings more of the same, although temperatures nudge slightly higher to a top of 16 degrees. Showers remain very likely under cloudy skies, with 2 to 9mm possible and northwesterly winds tending westerly during the morning. For commuters, the start of the new week is looking damp rather than severe, but roads could still be slick during heavier bursts.
By Tuesday, Adelaide starts to move into a more settled phase, though not completely dry just yet. The forecast is for partly cloudy conditions and a high chance of showers, with a top of 15 degrees and possible rainfall of up to 4mm. Winds ease back to a westerly 15 to 25 km/h, which should make the day feel a little less wild than the weekend.
A break is finally in sight from Wednesday. Adelaide is expected to see partly cloudy skies, just a slight chance of a shower, and lighter winds, with temperatures ranging from 7 to 16 degrees. Then by Thursday, the city should dry out properly under sunny skies, with a cool start of 6 degrees and a top of 16. After several grey, showery days, that late-week sunshine will be welcome.
Across regional South Australia, the next few days will bring a broad sweep of winter weather. Fog and patchy frost are around parts of the South East this morning, while showers affect the pastoral districts and Eyre Peninsula. From Saturday, showers spread across the agricultural area, with isolated falls further north and the chance of thunderstorms near coastal parts.
Sunday and Monday keep showers going through southern districts, especially about windward coasts, the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Lower South East, where the wettest totals are expected. By the end of Monday, many areas in the south could see 5 to 15mm, rising to 10 to 20mm in the Mount Lofty Ranges, windward coasts and the Lower South East, with isolated falls of 15 to 30mm possible. The northwest is expected to remain dry.
Happy Friday!
