Adelaide Hills residents now have a smoother and quieter way to get around with the Mount Barker on-demand bus service switching to a new, fully electric fleet.
Six new electric buses have hit the road in Mount Barker, Nairne and Littlehampton, replacing former the diesel fleet. With each small bus seating up to 12 passengers, an extra vehicle has been added to the service to help reduce wait times, increase capacity and improve availability during peak periods.
Since launching in January 2020, the Mount Barker on-demand service has become a popular transport option for Hills residents, recording more than 502,000 trips to date. Before becoming a permanent part of Adelaide Metro’s metropolitan bus network last year, the service averaged around 8,000 trips each month.
Fares are the same as any metropolitan bus, train or tram service, that allow passengers to use metroCARD, Tap and Pay and the Buy & Go app, including transfers between services.
The service allows locals to request a ride whenever they need one and zip around the Hills quicker and easier. Passengers just download the Keoride app, go on the website, or call 1300 642 604, and book the bus by selecting a pick-up point that suits them. Whether it’s outside their home, at a nearby bus stop or another designated location, the shuttle collects them and takes them directly to their destination. Book, select and await your new, sweet ride.
The electric upgrade comes as the State Government continues to assess liveability and transport needs across the Adelaide Hills, with Mount Barker’s growing population driving the need for more accessible and reliable connections across the region. The new fleet will help support the community as more residents call the Hills home, while improving the sustainability of the area.
The new vehicles reflect the region’s shift towards a more modern and environmentally conscious community as the Adelaide Hills continue to evolve.
The on-demand service operates Monday to Friday from 6am to 9pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm, including public holidays.
With greener vehicles, greater flexibility and more options for getting around, the upgraded service is helping locals explore the Hills with a little more ease.
