Local Kitchen Co. opens 5th location in Port Elliot today, serving fresh meals all through Christmas

The heat-and-eat hero has all the homestyle meals to fuel Christmas, and the Port Elliot location doubles as a dine-in cafe.

Heat-and-eat hero Local Kitchen Co. has officially opened its fifth store, bringing its delicious, homestyle meals to Port Elliot just in time for the summer surge and the Christmas chaos. Like the popular Parkside location, the Port Elliot offshoot will also operate as a cafe with all the delicious goodies and coffee available in-store.

Founded in 2019 by South Australian local Sarsha Harvey, the business began as a humble home-kitchen operation designed to help busy families take one thing off their plate at dinnertime. Five years later, Local Kitchen Co. has grown into one of SA’s most heart-warming success stories, with thriving stores in Malvern, Parkside, Glenelg, Modbury and now the Fleurieu, plus a booming online delivery service.

The ethos is good food, made fresh every day by chefs, using local ingredients, with no preservatives and no shortcuts. “We want to make it easy for families and easy for the community to have something nutritious with no fuss,” explains Sasha.

The Port Elliot store mirrors the look and feel of their popular Duthy Street location, with fridges stocked daily with ready-to-heat meals, frozen favourites, punchy salads, and irresistible snacks. Customers can pop in for tonight’s dinner, plan ahead for beach-house stays, or order online for doorstep delivery.

The decision to expand south was rooted in community care. “There are a lot of elderly people down there who would benefit from the service, and we wanted to be part of that community,” Sasha says.

Local Kitchen Co. also supports NDIS participants and those in the Support at Home program, making access to nutritious meals more affordable and stress-free for people who need a hand.

And with half of Adelaide migrating to the coast every December, the timing couldn’t be better. Over summer, expect the family-size favourites to fly out the door – chicken and leek pie, beef lasagne, potato bake, and the eternally popular roast vegetable frittata. Add in a nourish bowl or two, and you’ve got beach-day refuels sorted.

For those who would rather skip the shopping lists entirely, Local Kitchen Co’s Executive Chef Jordan Theodoros has curated a Christmas menu for four, and his all the Christmas hits. Turkey with all the trimmings, summery salads, potato gratin and even a whole roasted cauliflower dressed with chermoula and tahini yoghurt. There are also festive sweets, including Jordan’s house-baked Christmas cake and rich individual puds with brandy butter. Orders for the set menus close December 15, or until sold out.

Local Kitchen Co. Port Elliot will operate every day through the holiday season except Christmas Day, giving locals and holidaymakers a rare option on a coastline where cafes often shut over the break.

“We find there are thousands of people walking around — and not much open,” says Sasha. “We’re excited to fill that gap.”
