The Theatre Organ Society of Australia (TOSA) and the Capri Theatre are set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of entertainer Mathew Loeser by bringing him back to where it all began.
Known for his sharp wit, laidback charm and flamboyance, multi-award winning Loeser is a celebrated keyboardist and vocalist that breathes new life into the music of yesteryear.
In 2001, Loeser was lauded with the international title of Junior World Champion Theatre Organist by the American Theatre Organ Society. Born and raised in Victor Harbor, he has gone on to perform by invitation on P&O cruise lines in the UK and, more recently, has spent the past 14 years living and working in Sydney.
Now back in Adelaide, TOSA has snapped up the chance to celebrate Loeser’s silver anniversary with a concert on the Capri’s famed Wurlitzer Organ, the second largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
“I’m so excited to be back at the Capri, where it all began”, says Mathew. “This is where my career was launched so it’s fitting to return home to celebrate my life as an entertainer with the music I’ve always loved.”
The anniversary matinee concert on 15 September will feature Loeser on organ, piano and vocals performing a variety of music from Noel Coward and the Great American Songbook (think: Cole Porter and Irving Berlin), through to tunes from The Carpenters and movie classics.
“It’s going to be a fun show with a little bit of something for everyone,” he says. “Through the years, every experience has brought something new to my shows, whether it was the intimacy of a private engagement, the pizazz of staging a concert, tinkling the ivories in the lounge on a cruise liner, or recording both of my albums.”
The Capri Theatre is home of the Theatre Organ Society of South Australia and hosts a number of concerts and events featuring local and overseas artists. Tickets to Mathew Loeser’s 25th anniversary concert are available in advance through the Capri Theatre, and will be available at the door on the day if not sold out.
