2013 marks the 19th year that the Motorcycle Riders’ Association (MRA) has invited Vinnies to be a part of their annual Toy Run. The event collects approximately $250,000 worth of toys and gifts for children and young adults from across the State who experience disadvantage. These generously donated gifts are then distributed by Vinnies volunteers to ensure every child in need will experience the joy of having a gift under their Christmas tree this year.

At what is a time of joy and celebration for many of us, far too many Australians face the prospect of a bleak Christmas as they struggle to pay their bills and provide the basics for their family, let alone cope with the extra costs associated with Christmas.

Vinnies’ South Australian State President Brian Spencer says that it is crucial Australians continue to support people who are doing it tough.

“Australians are characterised by being generous and lending a helping hand to people who are struggling. The reality is that without the support of the community, we would not be able to assist families who turn to us each Christmas,” said Mr Spencer.

He continues by saying “the Society in South Australia is very proud to again be partnering with the MRA.”

This year’s Toy Run will again see Santa lead a convoy of motorcycling enthusiasts from all walks of life from the Clipsal Track in Victoria Park on Sunday 8 December. Followed by a cavalcade of several thousand strong motorcycling friends, Santa will proceed up the South Eastern Freeway to Callington Oval arriving at 11.45am.

Riders and onlookers are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys and gifts to donate. Vinnies volunteers will be happy to collect donations at both start and end points of the MRA Toy Run.

Thousands of children have a brighter Christmas thanks to the generosity of not only motorcycle riders, but also families looking for a fun day out.

The St Vincent de Paul Society (SA) Inc helps many thousands of people through Home Visitation, Migrant and Refugee Assistance, Hospital and Prison Visitation, Retail Family Centres, Accommodation for Homeless Men, Overseas Partnership and Development, Youth Programs and Fred’s Vans.

There will be catering options available at Victoria Park as well as a MAC display. Callington Oval will be filled with children’s entertainment, competitions, merchandise stands, TUSK!FM, a well-known SA Fleetwood Mac tribute band will be playing as well as food and drink stalls.

There is a $5 per person entry fee into Callington Oval to join in the celebrations. This modest fee help the MRA cover costs and continue their work of representing riders, primarily on issues of road safety.

Please donate to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal so that we can continue to change lives every day. To show your support and make a donation visit your local IGA store or BankSA branch today. You can also make a donation at vinnies.org.au or by calling 13 18 12.
