South Australia’s beloved Gin guns Never Never Distilling Co have won Best Gin and the Inaugural Premier’s Award for the Best Gold Medal Winning SA Gin at this year’s Tasting Australia Spirit Awards, cementing themselves as SA’s distillers to watch this awards season.

Winning the prestigious title of Best Gin in the 2021 awards ceremony, Never Never Distilling Co.’s classic and famed Triple Juniper Gin was recognised by an array of industry experts as the best in Australia.

In addition to the 11 existing award categories, this year’s awards welcomed a new title of the Inaugural Premier’s Award for Best Gold Medal Winning Gin. Exclusive to South Australian gin entries, the award celebrates the best local gin from the gold-winning entries.

Taking home the title of the inaugural award, Never Never Distilling Co’s Triple Juniper Export Strength Gin shined again at this year’s awards.

“Congratulations to Never Never Distilling Co and all the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards entries from South Australia and beyond,” says Premier Steven Marshall.

“It is wonderful to hold a national competition that celebrates the spirits industry through Tasting Australia presented by RAA Travel. The distillers have shown great innovation in their entries and the growth in the number of products entered into the awards this year is testament to the importance of these awards.”

Winners of this year’s Tasting Australia Spirit Awards, presented by Master Cask, have been awarded during the fourth annual spirit awards ceremony on Saturday 16 October. This year’s awards attracted spirits from across the nation, with a record number of entries – 315 spirits from 73 distillers – a 23% increase from the number of entries in 2020.

The winners were decided through three days of intensive tasting by a panel of expert judges guided by the Spirit Awards Patron and World Whisky Award Hall of Fame inductee, Bill Lark.

Never Never Distilling Co.’s success at this years Tasting Australia Spirit awards comes in the wake of the announcement of the 2021 International Wine & Spirits Competition nominations.

The McLaren Vale based distillery has been shortlisted for International Gin Producer of the Year, a category and competition that is reserved only for the best distillers and winemakers in the world.

“In such a competitive global market, to be singled out in the top 5 global gins is a massive achievement for such a tiny distillery and a huge reward to the whole Never Never team who work so hard to achieve this sort of success,” says co-founder and brand director Sean Baxter.

“We knew that if we build gins with more flavour people would love them. It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice to the industry, or a gin nerd or juniper freak, or even an international judge on the panel of one of the worlds most prestigious competitions, flavour is flavour and our gins are packed with it.”

“We’re not holding our breath when it comes to competing against such epic gin producers from around the world but we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in 4 short years.”

“However, if we do pull off the unimaginable, there will be quite the party at our brand home in McLaren Vale.”

Never Never Distilling Co.’s achievements ring true to the ethos of the distillery’s founding principles of being fearless in their work and positioning flavour before anything else. Since launching onto South Australia’s thriving gin scene four years ago, Never Never has gone from strength to strength, and now are recognised for their spirits, skills and determination globally.
