Nicola Spurrier confirms changes to COVID-19 isolation mandate

Professor Nicola Spurrier and Health Minister Chris Picton have announced that mandatory isolation requirements are set to end tomorrow.

Professor Nicola Spurrier and Health Minister Chris Picton have announced that mandatory isolation requirements are set to end tomorrow.

The pair have also given updates on the state’s stance to COVID-19 isolation mandates, aligning with the recent announcement made by the Prime Minister.

“We have moved to a new workplace health and safety regime and as such a number of changes have been made after discussions from this morning and last night meaning that this ends the isolation period,” Chris Piction said.

The call to end mandated COVID-19 isolations comes after almost 1000 days since the first isolation period in SA.

Picton and Spurrier are still urging the public to stay home if you have symptoms and make sure to take the appropriate measures to protect you and those around you.

“We are still keeping some provisions like you need to report and positive RATs to SA Health to monitor the reports of COVID-19 and to also provide information about any viral medication,” Picton said.

Staying home will now be the responsibility on the workplace on an occupational level rather than on a government basis.

Since there is no legal requirement to isolate, the onus gets put back on the individual or business.

“We’re putting back the responsibility back on the individual and I don’t doubt that South Australians will do the right thing,” Spurrier said.

Spurrier still urges those feeling unwell the COVID-19 symptoms to stay home since they are still infectious 10 days after first contact.

“Consider staying home until those acute symptoms have resolved. If you do leave your home we advise you to wear masks once you leave the household,” Spurrier said.
