Prohibition Liquor Co. has emerged as the undisputed champion at the esteemed Australian Distilled Spirits Awards presented by Melbourne Royal.
The Adelaide-based craft spirits company took out the top trophy of the night and was named Champion Australian Distiller for 2023.
This accolade, a testament to their unwavering commitment to the art of distillation, celebrates the pinnacle of excellence in the realm of spirits craftsmanship.
The prestigious honor is reserved for the distiller with the most remarkable performance across the spectrum of the ADSA Awards.
Prohibition’s outstanding showcase wowed the judges, netting an impressive quartet of gold medals that added a resplendent glow to their already illustrious reputation.
One of these gold medals was for the company’s latest offering, its Field Blend Shiraz
gin, which eyes are now trained on as this is slated for its grand public debut on Thursday, August 10.
Prohibition said this gin is inspired by classical-style winemaking techniques and described the spirit as “a juicy and textured fruit-style gin that’s worth savouring.”
A symphony of gold echoed across PLC’s portfolio, as the Juniperus, London Dry ‘Bootleg Series,’ and Original gins each clinched their own gilded accolades. These triumphs further enriched PLC’s remarkable medal tally for 2023, now sparkling with over 20 distinguished honors.
Adam Carpenter, who co-founded PLC in 2015, said he was thrilled that Prohibition’s range
of gins was continuing to achieve such high recognition at both national and international awards.
“I attribute this success to each gin’s attention to detail, from premium world-class spirit to packaging and storytelling. This is what sets Prohibition gins apart from the rest,” he said.
PLC head distiller Hugh Lumsden said the Shiraz Field Blend gin was always on his list of gins he wanted to make, thanks to its complex distillation techniques and bold flavours.
“It’s such an exciting profile, full of some of our very best grapes from our brilliant vineyards in McLaren Vale,” he said.
“The combination of multiple varietals makes for an elevated drinking experience.”
Hugh was proud of the small batch gins that PLC had created over the past year, including the Shiraz Field Blend, and London Dry Bootleg Series #2 exclusively for its Bootleg Box subscription members.
“The Bootleg Series gins are only for those that sign up and follow our journey as members of the Bootleg Box Subscription and it’s so wonderful to have one of them take out a medal for a gin that was inspired and influenced by what we refer to as our ‘ginner sanctum’.”
The glory bestowed upon Prohibition doesn’t end there, as recent months have seen their trophy cabinet embellished with an array of esteemed awards.
The Juniperus, a true luminary, received a remarkable haul of five gold medals across esteemed competitions, including the Tokyo World Spirits Competition and World Drink Awards.
Their Navy gin also carved a path of success, winning an impressive trio of gold accolades so far this year. To top things off, Prohibition’s Limited Edition Christmas Gin won the illustrious title of World Best Spice Liqueur at the acclaimed World Drinks Awards.
Prohibition will be travelling Australia and to France over the next three months, attending gin festivals in Perth, Sydney and Hobart before heading to Paris in October to exhibit at Ginsiders and then Le Spiritives in Bordeaux and Singapore in November.
Prohibition said there is plenty more to come, and judging by their success so far, it will no doubt be brilliant.
