RSPCA South Australia is hoping to inspire families across the state, as they launch a one-week adoption special offering 50 per cent off fees for all adult cats and dogs.

The promotion begins 10am Saturday, July 4th and runs until Sunday, July 12th, with the not-for-profit organisation calling on the community to help more than 270 adult animals currently in its care find loving forever homes.

At the RSPCA SA Animal Care Campus in O’Halloran Hill, staff say there are countless pets ready and waiting for a second chance, each with their own personality, history, and capacity for companionship.

Chief Executive Officer Marcus Gehrig shared, “We hope this special offer encourages people who are thinking about welcoming a new pet into their family these winter school holidays to come and visit us.

“Every adult cat and dog available for adoption has its own unique personality and an abundance of love to give. They’re ready and waiting for the chance to become a cherished member of a loving family.”

Among those hoping the campaign brings a breakthrough are two long-term residents Loki, a handsome husky who has been waiting almost a year for his perfect match, and Honey, a playful young cat who has spent nearly 100 days in care.

Loki is being described as the ultimate winter companion, loyal, affectionate, and more than happy to settle into a couch-side routine, while Honey is full of energy and charm, patiently waiting for a family to call her own.

RSPCA SA is also highlighting the life-changing impact adoption can have, sharing the story of Ziggy, a resilient two-year-old cat who overcame a traumatic start to life after being hit by a car at just four months old, resulting in the loss of a back leg.

For Ziggy’s owner Sarah, the adoption has been nothing short of transformative.

“Having lost my cat of nearly two decades just two weeks prior to meeting Ziggy, she gave me a reason to smile and reconnect with the world during a profoundly difficult time in my life.

“Living with AuDHD, PTSD, and ARFID, I’ve found Ziggy to be a steady and grounding presence. Together, we’ve moved through cycles of trauma and replaced them with mutual trust, safety, and love.”

RSPCA SA is encouraging potential adopters to visit in person rather than relying solely on online listings, noting that some animals may not yet appear on the website.

Staff also use the opportunity to help match visitors with pets best suited to their lifestyle, making sure the strongest chance of long-term success.
