SA Icons Lend A Hand For Filmmaker’s Cannes Expedition

MC_CUSome of South Australia’s big names are lending a hand to up and coming filmmaker Michael Clarkin who’s travelling to Cannes for the Festival and Market later this month.

Michael Clarkin will be heading to Cannes pursuing sales for feature film projects including ‘This Time Next Time’, ‘Keel Haul’ by Largs Bay writer David Haddin and ‘Famous Amos’, from McLaren Vale writer Albert Jamae.

‘Famous Amos’ is based on the true story of the horse River Amos, who was rescued from the knackery and went on to win the Great Eastern Steeplechase at Oakbank.

Clarkin is working to bring all three projects to South Australia to be produced at the SA Film Corporation’s Adelaide Studios.

Vili Milisits OAM and Rosemary Milisits OAM of Vili’s Cakes; esteemed winemakers Tom Hardy, Geoff Hardy (K1) & Simon Hackett and Coopers’ Brewery are contributing to a fundraising lunch to be held at 1pm next Friday 10 May at Café de Vili’s.

Proceeds from the lunch will contribute to Michael’s trip and The Hutt Street Centre Foundation, the charity that supports Adelaide’s homeless.

Michael is looking forward to the opportunity to head to Cannes.

“I’ve been working in development on numerous feature film and television projects over the last three years. Development is like crime. It doesn’t pay!” he says.

While Michael is “extremely grateful” for the support he has received from the SA Film Corporation to travel to Cannes, the production of marketing materials is very expensive and the lunch will help pay for these items.

Rosemary from Vili’s says the lunch will also showcase the finer dishes of the Café de Vili’s menu.

“We won’t be serving pie floater!” she jokes.

Guests will be offered cocktail Vili’s pies and pasties on arrival, then a choice of South Australian Whiting; Garfish; St Vincent’s Gulf Prawns or a T-Bone steak served with Café de Vili’s renowned chips and salads.

Meals will be accompanied by a selection of 2012 Australian Winemaker of the Year K1 Wines by Geoff Hardy; Thomas K Hardy Wines; Simon Hackett Wines and Coopers’ Ales.

Vili and Rosemary will host the lunch while the winemakers are also planning to attend, providing a unique opportunity to share lunch with the partners behind Australia’s largest family-owned business.

Rosemary adds, “It will be a unique, intimate event that will showcase the best of South Australian food and wine, while also helping a talented young South Australian reach their goals. All for just $70!”
