The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of South Australia, with damaging winds and gusts reaching up to 100km/h forecast across the state today.
The warning, issued at 4:05am on Sunday, August 9, covers parts of the West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North and North East Pastoral districts.
Port Lincoln, Ceduna, Hawker, Elliston, Jamestown and Kadina are among the locations that may be affected.
A cold front connected to a low-pressure system in the Bight is moving across South Australia today, bringing a gusty west to southwesterly change.
A secondary trough is also expected to approach western Eyre Peninsula this afternoon, strengthening winds for a period.
Damaging winds averaging between 55 and 65km/h, with peak gusts around 90km/h, are possible across western and southern Eyre Peninsula from late Sunday morning.
Those conditions are then expected to extend into northern Yorke Peninsula during Sunday afternoon before winds ease below warning levels later in the evening.
Conditions could be even stronger across the Flinders Ranges, where damaging winds averaging 60 to 70km/h and peak gusts of around 100km/h are likely from late Sunday afternoon.
Winds across the Flinders Ranges are expected to remain above warning thresholds into the night before easing during Monday morning.
The severe weather warning comes alongside widespread marine wind warnings across much of the South Australian coastline.
A Gale Warning is in place for Sunday for the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, Lower West Coast, Central Coast and Spencer Gulf.
Strong Wind Warnings have also been issued for Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, South Central Coast, Gulf St Vincent, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast and Lower South East Coast.
Conditions are expected to remain windy into Monday, with Strong Wind Warnings currently covering Adelaide Metropolitan Waters and almost the entire South Australian coastline, from the Far West Coast through to the Lower South East Coast.
The SES is urging residents in affected areas to move vehicles under cover or away from trees and secure loose items around their properties.
People should stay indoors and away from windows while conditions are severe and continue checking current weather warnings throughout the day.
