It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…in July! Can you believe it’s that time of year again? If you’re looking for some Christmas fun and festivities five months early, climb aboard the SteamRanger and take a journey from Mount Barker to Strathalbyn, and fully embrace the joy of the season. Chugging along for its sixth year – only taking a break during Covid – the Christmas in July Dinner Train is bringing back all the festive magic you’ve come to know and expect from this unique standout experience.
Beginning at Mount Barker railway station at 4.30pm, the 100-year-old heritage steam engine will open its cabin doors and welcome guests with each carriage fully decked out in Christmas decorations from top to toe. Over the hour-long picturesque journey to Strathalbyn, watch the sun setting over the hills and prepare yourselves for a full Christmas feast.
Once arriving in Strathalbyn, take a short walk to the Victoria Hotel, where the venue will come alive with everything merry and bright. Enjoy a traditional three-course Christmas dinner ‘alternate drop’ menu complete with all the trimmings (think baked barramundi or a generous serving of roast turkey and vegetables for the main, and a decadent Christmas pudding or mixed berries and meringue for dessert), with vegetarian or vegan options also available. Children are also welcome, and have the option of a separate menu, upon request.
The journey ends with a return trip to Mount Barker, where passengers will disembark at 10pm, bellies and hearts full from the celebrations, holding many precious memories for years to come.
Get ready to eat, drink and be merry, with this once-a-year opportunity to experience Christmas on a cold winter’s night, surrounded by fellow Christmas enthusiasts and a whole lot of festive cheer. Tickets are selling fast and the carriages are nearly full to the brim, so be sure to book soon!
